Just a little bit done today, Dad's given the r/h seat crossmember a thorough de-rusting prior to welding over the end

Posted Image
Posted Image

and then fabricated a repair panel to close it up once the cross member has been internally etch primed primed and top coated. This seems to be an ongoing theme with my car.
Posted Image

Yet again we have been let down with replacement door steps being the wrong shape again. This time SC Parts in Crawley, and the funny thing is they are identical to the Magnum panels Mmmmm!!!!!! so that's it time to modify panels that should fit AGAIN >:- > >:(

Anybody going to the Himley Hall show next month, my wallet is going to get a very thorough spanking, full suspension, hi lo's, calipers, disc's etc etc etc, not sure if dad's car is going to be big enough. :- :D

I mentioned about poor fitting door steps in an earlier post so here's the proof
Posted Image

so it was time to section it and shrink it down in size, 2 cuts later with a 1mm steel cutting disc and a little hammer action you get this
Posted Image

then out with the clamps and the welder and you get this a some what better fit bar the sill flange
Posted Image

Then once its welded in you get this with some more hammer and block work.
Posted Image

All i all a lot of work for a poxy small panel. I had chopped down a Magnum door step but it was even worse than the old Sc parts step. Not only was it too wide but the stepped sections were totally different to match the existing contours on the car. I suppose this is the price you pay for after market panels.

HI. ive heard all about this project this weekend, now i can put images to the stories haha.

its come on along way from the beginning, itl be nice when its on the road, it will be a mega sense of acheivement.

loving the powdercoated bits, look very yummy.

i can now vouch to how good your dads welding/fab skills are, as he has been welding my sills over this weekend. which turned from a 1 day job to a 3 day job chasing rust  .

i'll be following this to see how it comes together... best of luck >_<

Things have been a bit quite work wise with the car at the moment as dad was busy welding rick spi's mini but in the mean while he made these at work

Posted Image

and this new inner sill section for the l/h side

Posted Image

He has got a few days off now so hopefully he will finish the r/h side of the car apart from the door skin which he is going to do again but this time with a Heritage panel as he was not happy with the way it bulges out at the top. Shame really as the rest of it looks really good. :mrcool:

Ahh they are for repairing the window frame edge sections for the windscreen, rear screen and side windows. They are pitted in several places so as he is putting in so much work replacing and repairing practically all of the car structure then it would be a shame to leave these to rust later.

Well today Dad fitted the r/h outer sill
Posted Image

and then plugged a few more drain holes in the r/h rear floor, before
Posted Image
after
Posted Image

There are a few more drain holes to plug then he will finish fitting the r/h A panel before moving onto the window cutout repairs on the r/h side of the car.

Dad welded on the steering rack mount but had problems with his welder now sorted thankfully
Posted Image

he then moved on to sorting some of the smaller stuff namely the gap between the A panel/wing flange and scuttle flange
Posted Image
Posted Image

He can be picky and was not happy with the edge of the wing/wheel arch to front panel
Posted Image
so he cut through the welds and tweaked it slightly to get this
Posted Image

He also tidied up some other welds before re-priming, tomorrow he will definitely be cutting out the crusty window flanges.

I'm absolutely loving your top quality metal work. It's great to see a project coming together at a good solid pace and being done to such a high standard.

Super work!
