Hi
Well we got my 87 mini mayfair on saturday. Didn't look quite as good as it did on the advert but i don't mind.Striped it all down today to see what exactly is needed.
DAY ONE;
On its axle stands now to see what's underneath and to sell the 13x7 superlites as we're going for the standard arches .
Some very poor painting touch ups done around the doors and bonnet
Butchered arches after the last owner trying to fit the 13" wheels, got to weld on some new lips
Some ugly Ariel mount that will be going
The car has been sitting for a while so its all abit rusty and corroded but we plan on wire brushing the callipers then priming them and a coat of red.
Rear drums need there backplates replacing
Headlining needs replacing
The very ugly home-made dash that is extremely bad, this will be going straight in the bin
Badly done window tint is also to be removed along with the sprayed standard inside door handles
A mess
Roof vinyl will also be removed as it looks shocking up close
Goodbye to the indicator covers and blue tinted fog lights
Think it needs a clean, also alternator belt is covered in some sticky scum
Close up of bad front arch
Interior which is too be completely gutted and replaced

Mmmm this is going to be good.
I like other people's to-do lists!
The main work should be done at the weekends but the smaller jobs will be done on weekday evenings.Hoping to make that to do lists smalled and not bigger too and the only thing which will need to be done somewhere else is the re spray

Lucky it will be going for a re spray so we can get busy with the grinder and filler, should hopefully be ripping into the rear subframe soon and sorting it out,the arms need new bearings/bushes and we need to clean it all up and replace some bits, then just a lick of paint on the sub frame.Engine will be coming out soon too for a rebuild.
God knows how it ran as when we was taking the tank out today the fuel line wasn't even connected to the carb
Need to stock up on etch primer, hammerite, more vw red paint and some more wire brushes for the angle grinder as the ones for the windy are more expensive and harder to get hold of.
Also that glue for the window tint is a pain to get off,we tried hot water and soap, mentholated spirits, paint thinners and finally had to use nitromoors
Anyway back to running round the net looking for my next fix of parts

mainly more stripping and cleaning today.
Cleaned off waxoil today on the rear subframe with some nitro mores as i planned on getting the subframes powder coated. They will be chemically cleaned and blasted but thought i would take off the waxoil
Still busy refurbing superlites ready to sell.first layer of primer
Now for the shiny bits
Got this steering rack bracket for lowering the rack, not mine but will hopefully be getting on some. Its a monster and much better than the other ones you can by,made from stainless steel and solid.
Some black mistral wheels(minilites)They have been powder coated.
And some awesome centres for them.Made from stainless steel and should last longer than plastic ones
Also can someone tell me if that dash i brought which is in one of the posts above is from retrodash,i think it is.
