why dont you put the standard gear linkage back on and see if it pops out? if it does you know its your box and you will have to dismantle and find the problem, you could make the wedge that holds the gear and the selector together steeper on a milling machine, and that will stop it poping out under power

I would try that but i'm using a rod gearbox in a mk1 cooper with some big modifications, i do not have any mount points for a standard rod shifter..
