Hi
Has anyone had experience of spray painting in their garage, and using a fan to SAFELY extract the fumes? I am almost ready to paint my mini. i will be cleaning the garage, and making a sealed spray booth enclosure inside the garage, out of PVC pipe, polythene sheet etc. My main concern is about the fan required for ventilation.

I am aware that pro paint boths use explosion proof fans.

I plan to make up a filter unit at one end of the booth, so the filter is on the inside of the booth, and have a non-explosion proof fan on the outside of the spray environment. Therefore, only filtered air will pass over the fan and motor. Is this advisable?

I am just concerned with the high cost of explosion proof fans, hence why i plan to use the method above.
Any advice?

Cheers

i have along with thousands of others have sprayed celly in a garage, i have never had a extractor fan fitted and find that if i leave the garage door slightly ajar the spray mist is sucked out enough to be able to see, after each coat has flashed off i open the door enough to clear the mist/fumes then close again for the next coat.
a mini is not a big car and not alot of paint is used for each coat so reducing the amount of mist.
dust wise if the garage is cleaned out and water put down the dust is next to none.
i dont use poly sheets on the wall because the paint particules stick to it and when the sheet is disturbed big lumps are floating around and will fall on the car (sods law) lol
dont forget that dust can be rubbed out ot picked off and painted over the top and then flatted out.

Yes, i understand. Its just me being paranoid. Many have told me i am a perfectionist, with striving for perfection for every stage of this resto. I guess trying to be too careful can be a downfall such as using poly sheets etc.

But I soppose as long as I have good lighting, and a garage as clean as possible then i should be fine in this case.
