This car is awesome and has given me a lot of ideas/inspiration. I'm going a slightly different route with Cooper steels and no arches, but the general look is there. Hopefully it will look at least half as good as this.

Thanks. I may try and run 10s with sticky tyres yet, and will race on slicks when I can. I would like some older style Cooper seats and buckets. That may be on the longer term plan.

So much awesome

Cheers.

I have just been to the New Zealand mini nationals, but didn't take this one as was a 5 hour drive away. We took my wifes mini special. Got some good ideas, and reminded me I still like my car the best!

Mate just read this start to finish, Top Job! Great idea grabbing the import to start with.
I too have just got back into one after ~20 years (Trade me makes things too easy!) and haven't stopped smiling.

Anyway congrats on making such a good job and tasteful too.

Thanks buddy. Having lots of fun using it now, but would like another project to be honest.

Nice Mini mate,

I'm from Dunedin and would also like to import a Japanese spec Mini and then Retro fit it to a MK1. Do you have any tips on how to import a Mini from Japan, or a good person to go through. I'm a bit stuck.

Cheers

Awesome build mate!

Would love to see that 970 motor brought back to life sometime! I'd have voted for that had I been on the forum when you were looking at it. Though I dare say once you've gone as large as 1400+cc it'd be hard to go down in displacement again?

Nice work though, stunning build. Engine pics needed though.

Hi there. I bought mine from the guy who owns Palmside in Christchurch. He may be able to help? There are a few good cars on trademe that were ex Japan, may be easiest just buy one that is here and you can see it. There is one in Lower Hutt that is really tidy.

I was thinking about this motor the other day. I will build it one day, maybe get another project one day, a real mk1 or a van. But yes the 1400 is just so good across the rev range, the 970 you had to rev to make any power.

If you send it down to Christchurch I'd love to rebuild it and give it the run around.

Haha, yea I've heard that, though like you said earlier in your topic, they must be super smooth.

Be a beautiful engine to build up. A Cooper S van, sounds plausible :-)

Yeah it does look pretty good, I've driven this Mini a few months ago, went pretty good.

A little work on the Mini today to further add to the 'Works Tarmac Mini' theme that I have moved toward.

So I added a set of Lucas spotlights, and a friend made up a special bracket for me (as the works ones dont fit with nudge bars and overriders).

Also added a reverse light on:
