Great to see the effort and detail that you're putting in to your mini, and always good to hear of them being used as daily drives I think! I can understand why people have weekend cars, but to me the more I run my mini the happier he or she is!

Best of luck with the rest of your plans

Just a quick question - how are the moustache end pieces fitted? they come with clips - which I assume you can rivet or screw to the body, but...do the moustaches pop on, or slide on from the side, and where are the clips, at the front (ie not around the curve part)?

Well... it is Christmas early, all sorts of wee bits and pieces have made their way across the world frpm the UK to reside on my Mini in New Zealand.

Here are some photos, new grill fasteners and front bumper installed (no overriders yet):

Next, had to work out how to install whiskers, they took about an hour to put them on, a little fiddly:

1. Take off front flares
2. work out height of whiskers
3. rivet clips to body (tip I put a washer behind the clip so that they were not so hard up against the body)
4. spray silicone spray on clips, body and whiskers
5. slide whiskers on, over the end of the grill surround

Next.... mount the overriders and nudge bars

by the way.... I am surprised how light the stainless bumpers are, much less weight than the old chrome ones, and a good finish (so far)

oh yeh.... put a fake fuel tank on the right hand side, and some Monza fuel caps... I know, fake fuel tank a little tacky, but I have the large tank on the LHS and do not want to lose more boot space, and I like the look of it.

Got a bit more done today, overriders and nudge bars on front, and new bumper on rear with overriders and nudge bars.

Also... fitted chrome trims to the top of door frames. Passengers side is from a Riley Elf, fits pretty well. Drivers side is a new one from Minispares (only had one left), but it didnt fit so well. I think I might have to remove some of the rivets and re-do them, or add some panel adhesive (or both) but they do look good.

That is the outside of the car finished (apart from a sump guard).

Thanks - I am enjoying sorting it out.

I doubt it is a Paul Smith, I think they were white or Blue, it is probably just a sticker they had.

Cheers

I was thinking they had the rear screen out of a paul smith and didn't remove the sticker.

Nice mini man.

This is true. BUT. Their it also has the green rocker cover. In England it was only available in purple (as far as im aware) but not sure about the colours in japan. It might have been re-sprayed while over in Japan. Anyway im sure that it properly is a PS but their just isn't much of it left now.

From the reading I have done there are a special blue (purpleish), black and white Paul Smith Minis, and possibly some others in Japan. The green rocker cover has been repainted (too fresh), and the car has plenty of other stickers from Auto Delta on it, so I expect that the window sticker is just a sticker. Interesting looking at what they had tho. MiniSpares has most of the genuine bits still, including the gold badge, denim tool kit etc - but are very expensive. 145 pounds for bonnet badge, 26 pounds for toolkit bag, 80 pounds for front grill, also have mirrors, rear badges.

Anyway... as you said, too much gone now (colour, interior, wheels, etc etc ) and I like it much better as a Mk1 lookalike.

Maybe to keep the theme alive I might paint the fuel tank green one day.

Popped some 10s on with slicks for fun days at the race track today, as well as re-torqued head, and set the valve clearances

Love it :D

What exhaust is that? How loud is it?

Very nice mini you have there, nudge bars and overriders on a mk1 front and back look awesome!

Any other nice bits due to arrive? But must say I think you have the look spot on as it is :)

Thanks guys.

The exhaust is from Japan, so I am not sure what it is, the muffler and rear section are stainless. it is loud outside the car, but... within the rules, and pretty good inside. It has a single cannon style muffler under the boot floor. I am going to have to cut and reweld it slightly to stop it puffing on the overrider. The rear exit pipe is fatter than the entry.

I am in the process of putting the carpets in today, after sealing the front windscreen yesterday, and I put some Special Tuning emblems on last night.... will get some photos.

There isnt much left to do other than a new motor one day, and maybe install a heater at some stage.
