Hiya mate
Well, perhaps I dont have to use barcoat, as the old paint seems very stable. I am not taking the panels down to bare metal, as the original paint is very good. However, the car was repainted 10 years ago, so I am removing as much of the resprayed paint as possible to leave the old paint to paint over.

To flat, i first used a DA sander, down to 180 grit. I then used a red scotchbrite pad to key all surfaces, including the interior. The scotchbrite pad seeems to be finer than 180 grit finish. is it OK to scotchbrite the whole car, or ensure all surfaces are sanded with 180 grit?

Cheers

Yes your doing the right thing using red scotch all over the car especially in all the areas you cannot get in to sand.

180 seems a little harsh, I'd probably use 320 to be honest.. maybe use something a little finer to go over after.

Hi John,
Yeah do the whole car, I generally use some 600 wet & dry to get it nice & flat prior to priming, then flat back the primer with 800,1000,or 1200 depends on how smooth you want it prior to topcoat. Good luck hope it goes well. :D
