I understand your fustration, but dont give away all your hard work for nothing. 1 year isnt that long. so if you have to drive around with a 998 for 1 year then so be it?! Suck it up! after 1 year of proving to them you are a reliable good safe driver, then they should hopefully insure you on a 1275. Its the way we all have to do it, bite the bullet and spend a year with a dog to get to the good stuff! You just have to prove yourself to them first.

I'm insured with Sabre insurance. Their the only people that gave me a quote for under £2000 on my first years driving. That with a 998 with a 1275 head with the block pocketed and a stage one kit. You could give them a try.

Right, we've tried every insurer under the sun and it's a no go whilst on a provisional. I'm looking for a cheapish car (under £1400) to run around in for a little bit until I've passed my test then try and get insured on the Pickup again. I've had 2 quotes after I've past my test, so there is still hope!

Now, who wants to sell me a half decent Mini for under £1400? Must have MOT & Tax, and have minimal rust really. Best to be a 998 or a standard fit 1275. Can anyone help!?

Cheers
Dan

Im quite confused, you cant get insured because as soon as you tell them you're on a green prov. licence no one will insure you because it's modified? (the same happened to me).

Then you're talking about putting a modified 998 in it?!

Just stick the 850 in it, get insured on your L plates, pass your test then get a quote for your 1275 and throw that back in it.

No one will make fun of you because your car doesn't go like stink on L plates, they'll make fun because you're on L plates.

Just my 2 pence

Could you not change it on the logbook to 1275 then not list the engine change as a mod.?

Basically, a 'tuned' 998 looks identical to an 850. By 'tuned' I mean something with a mild cam in, slightly larger head. Just so it's not absolutely dead.

I've decided to keep it as is, get a cheaper runabout till I've passed my test then see what I can do and where I go next.

And they don;t seem to know anything about the engine change. It's been changed to a 1275 on the log book but all insurers still think it's an 850. Surely they should be informed it's now a 1275 on their systems...?

Dan

Why does your run around needs to be a mini though? You could get some other old car for just a few hundred pound.

Ah, are you not getting insured/getting stupid quotes because your telling them your provisional? Stick it out a little and wait till you have a full licence then try again with the quotes

It doesn't, would just be nice if it was. And it's also the cheapest car to insure, at £752 for a 1000cc compared to £1333 for a 1.2 Corsa...

Dan :)
