It is probably because it is a modified car.
How about a tuned 998 at the moment?

If you waant a 1275 engine in a car at the moment you will probably need tp consider a Cooper or a 1275GT which were fitted with 1275 engines as standard.

This is the route I'm thinking of taking. It is actually a Mini 850, but without removing the engine 850's and 998's pretty much look identical.

Good mate thats not good, you must have spend a firtune on that car and only to get to this point not good, good luck, can you not get classic car insurance through you mum?

And yes, I have spent an utter fortune. It's cost me over £5.5k now, luckily I've made some money out of the cars I've bought and sold previously but still it's got to be £3.5 - £4k out of my pocket atleast. And, only being 16, I've worked every weekend (most of the time all weekend) to buy stuff for this car, and yes I have paid for it all myself, I don;t have loaded parents who've just paid for everything.
I'm gutted  Last resort is to sell it, but looking at the price of Cooper Sports I could probably afford a tidy one with the money I make from selling this. Anyone fancy a swap for a Cooper Sport, PM me and I'll tell you the engine specs (not quite stock). Atleast it'll be something to consider, not a definate at the moment.

A very unhappy feeling Dan :mrcool:

You sell it, I will poke your in the eye. You've put way too much work in to just sell it on now!!

Is it still down on the logbook as commercial or anything? Maybe getting I changed to private light goods will help? Tried getting quotes without an agreed valuation?

No-one will touch me with a modified car at 17. Declaring the enigne change from 848cc to 1275cc makes them fall off their stupid office chairs laughing
It's a case of tuned 998cc or sell it I think. I'm certainly not buying a cheap run around and keeping this stuck in the garage. I'd rather sell it on and buy a Sportpack or something. Not ideal, not ideal atall, but hey, thats how life goes! :mrcool:

I've tried that Toby, no luck still.

Get him for me too then!

If i can prize my Mk2 back from the bloke i sold it too we still up for a swap...?

But seriously, even if the very worse was to happen and you cant insure it for a year, keep it safe and well looked after in the garage and get a cheap run about for the time being. Just don't sell! Or if you do, to me!

Have you tried using Ensleigh on the Student Bonus Accelerator policy?
I got my car insured with them and they were £300 cheaper then anywhere else, including all the mini insurance companies!
Just a thought

I've got one car with herts and one with norton. I can't remember which it is now but one of those told me they changed the way they insure if you change the engine they insure it as what it would be if it was the car you got the engine from so just say its from a 94 mayfair or something, get a limited mileage policy, they have been insuring me since I was 22 but don't know what they are like for younger drivers. Hope you get it sorted. I had trouble with most of the normal companies because they were trying to say it was a comercial van

insurance is rediculous these days, for my 1275 with stage one it costs me best part of 2 grand to insure. im 19 but have no NCB or anything

i thinki its rediculous as i cant do anything to my car that i want to do without it costing me loads. (no good getting a pair of webers for a tenner if you cant use them  )

keep trying, im sure someone will insure you, and if not just ask what the cheapest insurance is for any car, then get that for a year. keep the pickup in the garage and you wont need to rush anything else you want to do.

try and get your dad to insure it for london to brighton, i want to see it in the flesh!!!
at least you would get to do the run

I will try these other companies, but really something has to change. I don;t know what they are playing at saying that I will be able to insure it for £1400, then when i go to do it going oh actually no, sorry we can't quote.

It's either going to be engine comes out and a 998 goes in for now, or car has to go. The latter will be very last resort, but they won't even insure me until I've passed my test, and with an 850 that's still £1300...

Last resort is to sell it

Give you £200 for it?

You could get insured on anything, just not cheap, I can get insured on a ferrari f40 but it was around £30,000

Try phoning AIG, 08456770096.
