Ive just started to drill my metal parcel shelf (which i dont know is such as good idea) to fit 6x9's. Ive had infinity 16.5cm standard fit, but just got a bit bored to be honest, plus was trying to sell my pioneer 6x9's and was getting stupid offers for them as i initially spend well over 100 quid on them for my other car...

...anyway...

looking from the underside (from in the boot), the parcel shelf looks tatty, bigtime...anyaone any tips on how to 'neat' it up? Was thinking of getting something like fine rubber arch trim and fitting it over the edge...

cheers

could of always left the 16.5s in the parcel shelf and put a 6x9 speaker board under the rear seats.

yeah ive done the 6x9 under the seats a couple of times. To be honest im now wanting to have it looking tidy and pretty much standard if that makes sense... like speakers where Rover want them to be sort of thing. Im just after decent sound. Im hoping in the back shelf (maybe amped) should be sufficient. U see i love music, but dont want to go too silly. I was running 2 x 12 JBL subs on my back seat which absolutely blew my ears to bits. Now im just after a nice tidy sound system which doesnt look too much. Im hoping to get my car into shows etc next year u see

cheers

im going to see how it goes. i think they should look quite good as ive tried to make my mini have a 'sporty' side to it. I dont mind speakers under the seats, but i dont think its for me to be honest.

I think 2 6x9's and a decent head unit...you cant go wrong. Tidy with a nice sound (hopefully). Il try and get a picture up when its done.

i have 2 jbl gts in my parcel shelf standard size of 13cm and when the volume is around 25 they pack a punch.

i removed the speaker from the back shelf, which left a hole in the bit of "carpeted" board that was left, so i covered it in acoustic cloth, you could so something similar if your mounting the speakers from underneath, that way there stealthed to so knowone should try to nick um

That's what i thought once i fitted my 6x9's in the parcel shelf...but then i gave in to "bass lust" :) .
The parcel shelf is the best place for 6x9's, although they are a bit far away. The ultimate set up is to have 6x9's in the parcel shelf providing good high and mid frequency, and then two 6x9's under the rear seat, wired up to a smallish amp, providing a good kick in the back with bass  . Although my setup has the amp powering the parcel shelf, so now my boot rattles

I disagree. A good set of components up front and a 10" sub in the back is much more ultimate.

Ah, but that takes up a lot more space. For one thing you're going to lose some of your dash space, and although a sub is more powerful it'll fill most of the boot, or will need a lot of modification to, or under, the rear seats to fit.

I always disagree with subs in a Mini unless they're 8" they're small enough for a smallcar :)

but if you like your bass turned up high a 8" will sound like a fart the morning after a vinda...

:D I've never seen oval-shaped subs before. Where did you get them? If they're any good i may buy a pair and squeeze them under the rear seat.

ouster, are they the genesis profile 6x9 subs? im really tempted to buy a pair, im guessing you are running them as free air subs, or are they in enclosures under the parcel shelf?

Wouldn't the Mini's boot act as an enclosure? It's small enough :D
