Hi

Ok it might seem like an odd question but which Mini clubs do people generally join and why?

I have 2 Mini's, a 79 Austin Morris and a 97 MPI Cooper so I could join....National Mini Owners Club, British Mini Owners Club, Mini Cooper Register and my local club Norfolk Mini Owners Club. I am already a TMF+ member so that's taken care of but I quite like the idea of joining a mini club (don't know why and might regret it)

Generally speaking is it worth joing any of these clubs? I normally keep to myself and don't get involved with social stuff where Mini's are concerned but I kind of feel that I might be missing the point of owning a Mini a little.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Luke.

I asked a similar question not to long ago mate as I am live in between the Kentish Mini Club and the SMOC. I am sure members from both clubs are on here. Here are the following replies I got....................

Sorry about that mate. Maybe they're not worth joing anyway!

It depends on what you want to do, Our club carry on mini'in attend shows in and out of the mini seen and go to classic rallys, rally gb, autosport etc, we also go out for fun, eating out. The best thing to do before joining a club is check out there web site and see what they have to offer, if you are up to doing anything they offer then go for it.

Just go to a club night and you'll soon get a feel for what the club is like.
I went to a monthly meet of one of my local clubs at a pub and mine was the only Mini in the car park.
When I mentioned the fact someone said "Oh, we don't really drive our Minis - we just show them at events".
I didn't go back because I like driving my car and wanted to find a club that went out on runs and had a laugh
rather than taking it all so seriously and being "trailer queens" at shows.

I've been to a couple of other clubs' monthly meets but still not found one that actually go off on runs and
pic-nics and the like or who have a "help each other out" ethos by sharing special tools and expertise etc and for me
that's kind of what a club is all about.

Best wishes
Monty

There is a monthly meet coming up on the 1st Sept for my local club so I am going to go along to that I think. The people on their forum seem to be alright, so I'll give it a go. I'm kind of hoping that I find a group that do stuff i.e. runs, shows etc....The "help each other out" ethos is kind of what I'm looking for also but not essential.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Luke.

Well you shouldn't be disapointed.

Next week-end 80 mile treasure hunt around Norfolk + BBQ
Next week-end after that 18 Minis displaying at the Norfolk Gala day (Free tickets provided by the club)
Week after Convoy to Stanford Hall
Week after that group attending the Kings Lynn Yarmouth Run

But, truth is 50% of being in a club is getting out what you put in, I'm sure you'll agree.

Look forward to seeing you on club night, I'm Johnnie, events organiser for Norfolk Minis. Come and say hello and if you really want to I'll let you buy me a drink :P
(That was explained to you, right? The bit about the new bloke buying the drinks all night? I know it sounds harsh but, I assure you thats how ALL the good clubs do it. Not my rules you understand :) )
