If the 'Y piece' in the exhaust has a hole and is blowing, could this be the reason why the car is juddering along and you have to keep the revs up to keep it moving? I'm pretty sure it is, I just want to double check. :w00t:

it must be a heftey hole to couse juddering of some sort but never the less possible.. if it is blowing for sure youd need to sort it sooner rather than later as its obviously not good for ya lump.lol it does take abit of hp away from the engine when its blowing but.... i dunno haha :w00t:

Thats what I thought, its blowing pretty bad, you can hear it blowing quite clearly, but is this enough to cause juddering? It wasn't doing it alot, just occasionally in 3rd gear.

well id say if it was blowing you need to fix it anyways so.. crack on and then see if it stops.. :w00t: haha best way i spose.. but yeah there maye be a few certain pints were gasses are more prominant in rev ranges and what not.. could cause some affects like that..

Iv had the exact same thing on my 99 MPi. Juddering whilst driving with exhaust blowing and having to keep the revs up.
Is ur car an injection? and my problem was an electrical connection to the right of the throttle body. There are 2 connections identical. Id give all the connections a good check over and make sure they are contacting properly. Hope this sorts it :w00t: . I KNOW that JUDDERING FEELING!! :w00t: caused me alot of hassle. Get it seen to if not or try and sort it as mine got gradually worse and eventually i basically couldnt let the clutch out without the poor thing coughing and spluttering

Also have the engine on idle and pull it towards you when u are standing at the front of the car, mine would cough and splutter when i did this.

Hope this helps

if its juddering alot could also be worth checking the engine mounts/steadies maybe.

Its getting fixed first thing tomorrow, its just that I also had a wiring issue under my steering column that caused the engine to switch off, I'm pretty sure it was a loose wire connector in and around the ignition wire, so I sorted that, i'm just hoping the two aren't linked and I haven't actually solved the whole problem. I hate wire issues.

Mine was an injection but now on a carb. In fact, I think it could be the dash pot. I haven't checked the oil level for ages and i've a sneaky feeling its low. PLEASE LET IT BE THAT SIMPLE.

And the reason for the late reply is because someone has just driven a flash jag into another car and wall up the road. Its sat in someones garden. Mental. Guy ran off.

a leaky exhaust will cause a drop in power, all depends how big the hole is though, i drove my 998 with only the exhaust manifold and it had no go whatsoever, not to mention it was noisy as anything!

A blowing exhaust will cause a weak mixture, if left for to long and thrashed chances are you will burn out a valve.

What are the signs that this has happened and a valve has burn't out? There's no blue smoke. But I have noticed a weak mixture over the past week.

Compression test it, it will be significantly down on the cylinder with the problem. Running wise it'll sound like it's on 3 cylinders, basically because it is. ie. very uneven/lumpy.
First thing to do before you pull the head off, is a compression test and do set the valve clearances before hand. If you've not got a tester it is a wise investment and will get lots of use. So definitely worth buying one.
