OK, so I've just had the rear drums off and have found the nearside cylinder to be leaking, as said previously, so thanks all! I'll order all new bits.

Change both sides - and new shoes too. Free off the levers and the quadrants - and the rear brakes will be as new! No more problems for a year or two - with luck.

I'm just about to order new shoes, springs, cylinders and bleed nipples for good measure

With regards to "that circlip". Anyone care to enlighten me on any special precedure to remove them?

EDIT: Noticed bleed nipples come with cylinders anyway

removing them is the easy part, get a screwdriver in and PING it will come off.
putting it back on will involve a lot of twisting pushing swearing just persist!

Goes in easy - just use a largish screwdriver - get it started on the middle leg - then pop the other two in by leaning the screwdriver on them. 5 second job. Simples!
