Just found R inner wing has rusted right thro behind shock mounting bracket when I took it off. Can that area of the inner wing be cut out & a patch welded in readily and does it require major stripping down to carry out? I'm not looking at attempting it myself. Thanks

i dont know definitive reply but also interested. Just bought a project with flip front and modded inner wing. Was thinking that the upper shock mounts cant be as strong as originally intended. Maybe this is reason for the new bars to fron od subframe. I would have thought you should be able to weld in new steel to this area, maybe even making it stronger, with no probs if you can weld and are competent at body repairs. Worth checking surrounding areas within 10.5foot from the mounts to make sure they are also sound if this area is a concern to you.

When you fit a removable front you loose the front subframe mounts, brace bars are to replace the front subframe mounts. They don't strengthen the shock mounts.

10.5 feet, that's the whole car then! Perhaps you mean inches, buddy...

The area behind the shock mount is easily replaceable thought you must be ablet o weld well as it is a critical part- you might want to keep an eye on my project thread as i will be welding this repair in myself on my project - easy to get to providing the shock mount comes off easily - the bolts can be rather tight sometimes and often very rusty.

As said above - Brace bars have nothing to do with the shock mounts, They're simply to replace the inner wings once they've been cut out - But once you have solid mounted the subframe (as you should with flip fronts) the bars will do very little and as such really are just MOT pleasers.

Even some Miglias don't run bars...

Yeah you can repair this area yourself, I take it you mean a hole directly behind the top shocker mount itself. I have just repaired this area on both sides of a customers car, cut out the bit of rot, treated then made up a repair plae & welded it in. Then refitted the shocker mount back on.

Thanks for advice, I shan't be attempting the welding myself as it's crucial to safety.

Pressed the wrong button to add a reply, so defintely not safe to let loose with a mig welder. Thanks for all the advice. Will cut out rust and get a friend to do welding but will check other side first just in case
