Model:998cc mini 1000
Year:1971
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
i think my rocker tips are pitted as i cant seem to stop the noisey tappets even theough i have set them meticulously at .012". the only thing i can think of is that the tips are pitted making the valve sit in the pit, giving a wrong reading. if i was to take the rockers off, will i upset the head gasket?

If you undo the head studs, yes.

You can wind out all the tappet screws, then slide the rocker shaft through the rockers and posts to release them. You might even get a good enough look at the pads by just winding the screws as far as possible.

As above - DO NOT loosen the head nuts - just take the rockers out and stone the ends flat. Simples !
