I'd also have a close look at the swivel hub caliper mounting lugs and check everything runs true before committing it back to the road.

If the disc broke up it could have taken an almighty whack, you would expect some evidence of where it was hit though.

Yes that's another worry, Im a little worried the swivel hub is a little damaged where the caliper mounts, because something has realy taken a hit there. I also forgot too mention the alloy has a few gauge marks in it. This just seems too be cosmetic though. Realy gutted about the wing though, something realy hit that hard. I'll take a few pics for you lot tomorrow. Can I just say, when I went to pick up the pieces of disc from the road so it didn't damage any other cars, the disc was boiling hot, my mate picked it up and now has blisters on his hand, I poored water over it so I could put it in the boot and the water boiled.

thats the same part of the caliper that sheared on mine see not just me
Apologies if Im wrong but didnt you carry on driving to your mates garage , which was what got you the most abuse.
This fella pushed his car home.
Who knows sean maybe in a mixed up way your incident did some good after all.
They probably only pushed it because they remembered the sh*t you got.

No, I pushed it because It was the sensible thing too do. If I didnt want to get shunned by a load of people on the internet I wouldn't have told you if I had driven it.
If sean had pushed his, he wouldn't have been so well known as he is now. We all make mistakes but come on who would drive a car with only 1 front brake?
Oh and it's his birthday so be nice too him.

I had a kinda similar failure on my mini years ago. Loud bang when brakign for a roundabout, and much less braking going on. Somehow I broke and lost a pad, the piston then hit the disk, and snapped the disc from the rotor/flange, this jammed the piston over, ruining the caliper, and leaking fluid.
mini_Mad69;
I'd go with replacing the hub and caliper, and checking the balljoints and track rod ends over.
Both discs, obviously, and new pads and retaining pins on the front.
Most of all though, I'm glad you managed to keep it under control and brought it to a halt!

You're ok is that main thing though, sure the dent can be smoothed over no problems, and if I were you I'd be shouting down the phone at whoever sold me those discs!

Ooof gutted to hear about this dude, could have been soooo much worse though, imagine if it had happened as you were entering the roundabout

Ok, well I was entering the roundabout, braking hard for it.
The discs are blue on both sides, so they have overheated, which I assume caused it too break. They wern't cracked on monday when I took the wheel off too screw the earth back on the aux fan.
Ben
Edit: Is this an acceptable way of breaking in new brakes. click here
