I hate to have to ask this, but I went back about 5 pages in search results and couldn't find any posts about it.

When fitting a new manifold gasket, which way around does it go on? I just received one from Moss Motors, one side is metallic and slightly raised, and the other side is grey and mostly flat. Which side goes toward the head and which side goes toward the manifold, or does it matter?

This is from minispares description for an injection exhaust manifold

special reinforced gasket for injection cars-has metal inserts on exhaust ports plus a metal back on the manifold side which makes surface easier to clean when replacing.

Alright, thanks for that! I was temped to put the metal towards the head since it seems that would be the hotter surface.

If its a injection gasket then it should be stamped 'manifold side' on the gasket, but as a general rule the shiny side faces the manifold.

I'd expect the manifold to be hotter, the head is thicker and is cooled (there are also alloy heads about but alloy exhaust manifolds are few and far between).

I never knew injection cars had a different gasket - anyone used it with forced injection, is the all metal turbo gasket still king?

The proper injection gasket has the metal fire ring around the ex ports like the Turbo one & is a cheaper & suitable alternative.
