Just kinda curious if anyone on here has done their own door cards before. If so, what did you make them out of?

I was thinking about doing a set for myself, and this was the closest thing I could think of, but I don't know how flexible it is so I'm not sure if it would work for the back ones (although technically those aren't doors  ):

I'd also appreciate if anyone had any suggestions as far as covering it, other than just plain in colored vinyl. If you've done any yourself, I'd like to see pictures as well. :)

Fibreboard dude, B&Q will have it. I havnt done it yet, but I will be making some up for my girlfriends mini. Pretty easy in theory, its really just a big rectangle! I've done my rear cards though, with speakers built in, and they are in fibreboard.

can you not just get an old set of door cards and do what you want with them to make them suit your car. This is what we did. Was a temp idea till the more expensive material came through but everyone loved it so have kept it. Not to everyone's taste though.

You do for a few weeks, but it does eventually stop malting. (we use that material to make dog beds)

I am tempted to make my own, but i have seen some very nice ones on retro re trims.

It should be as simple as useing the old door cards as a template, to get things in the right place on the new ones. then makeing ouy own design on them.

I have the original door cards still but the boards are a little torn up and there's mold under the vinyl.

Fiberboard! That's it! I know what the stuff is but I couldn't think of the name to search so I just pulled up the wall board. I've got no B&Q here though, just Lowes and Atwoods (I'm in the central US). They've gotta have some at one of those places.

EDIT: Can't find any listings for fiberboard on the Lowes site. I might just have to check out that hardboard wall panel anyway.

EDIT 2: Well, it pulls up particle board, but usually the stuff they sell is way too thick.

EDIT 3: Hardboard is a type of fiberboard:

Although I'm still worried it won't be flexible enough.

I've made my own many times for various different cars using ordinary hardboard. I believe the original stuff is called Millboard and it's a bit thinner but not really a problem unless re-using the original vinyl cover, in which case you might have to chamfer the edges of the hardboard a bit.

When stapling the material make sure you use the right length - otherwise they poke through the other side!

It's good fun and easy to do!

If you're as lazy as I am.

You'd use these, I'm planning to fiber glass a speaker in each door card, and use some vintage jaguar door pulls and handles, need to put electric windows in though becuase the door pull is a big one that uses all the space on the card.
Should look nice though. Just worrying about being able to fit it all in, but a dremel and a measuring tape and it'll be fine. Then I'll be pestering retro retrims to cover it all.

just made my second set for my new project
made them out of ply wood because hardboard just splits if you use the popper attatchments, but this time im gonna bolt them on with allen head bolts i tapped some holes into the door metal means they should be easier to take on and off and i love the look of allen head bolts i just went black vinyl and stuck a chrome trim strip down them.
