so.....the question now is....
Do I 'uncross' the numbers I have on my doors? (only crossed out with electricians tape)
or Do I leave the 'crossing out' on, because it actually looks quite cool?

hmmmmm.......a beer may be needed before I decide!

Do each side different, so you can take some time to make up your mind!

Thank you for this information.

this did not stop my local police pulling me over yesterday and threatening me with 3 points if I did not remove my door numbers.
I thought the officer was wrong but do not want to make it worse by arguing as I did not have enough information.
plus he did not say anything about my window tints ;-), so I took the warning and did as he said but know I feel like I miss my numbers and I should not have been made to remove them.

They can't just give you 3 point without telling you for what offence you have incured the 3 points.

They were not traffic police but they hunted me down. I was 3 cars behind them when they looked back at a roundabout and decided to wait for me in a cut-out bus stop on the duel carriageway I was joining. They came from the bus stop across the slow lane and and fast lane right up the back of me before pulling me at the next bus stop.
He came to the window and asked if I was a rally driver “I said no” he then tolled me the reason he stopped me was because my number on my door was illegal and I could get 3 point.
He tolled me to remove them and if the traffic police caught me they would go over my car with a fine tooth comb “that was his exact words”. I felt like I had no choice but to remove them.

The funny thing was at the same time a super bike had ran out of fuel and was riding his bike down the pavement with the engine off right past my window and they never even look at him.

Id send them a bill to replace them now that you are better informed.

Theres nothing worse than a cop who is mis informed.

As said previously it is your insurance that is invalid. If you read the small print it states it cannot be used for motorsport events etc.

To be on the safe side, put a cross through them

An another thing, whats the point in saying "are you a rally driver?" that just shows arrogance. Looks like someone has a case of the "do you know who I am's?" who loves the sound of his own voice, what a power hungry tool. Its plods like that with bad attitudes that gives them a bad name.

Show the person your talking to some respect, and they "should" do the same to you.

I think all coppers should under go regular training for how to talk to people

Just as well we wernt stopped in the rally clubman yesterday then... numbers all over the car along with sponsorship logos. We were testing the new "set up", and accidently (cough) were slightly sideways on a couple of roundabouts...Not speeding I hasten to add. but if we had been asked "Are you a rally driver" by the plod the answer would have been "Why yes...yes I am...have you met my navigator"?

To which I am sure the reply would be "so you think your smart?" or clever or your being a smart ar$e etc. And it would only get you treated even worse even thou plod started the smark alek comments!

Apprantly, the law is only they are allowed to make smart comments, even if their comments arent that smart at all and border on the stupid. All they are trying to do is provoke a response from you so they can make your life even more difficult.

That sounds about right. I also own a transport company with over 30 vehicles on the roads in my area every day and really really don’t want to start a fight with the traffic cops lol.

So your only option really is just to bend over and say thank you sir

Yes this is true, Im afraid that in order to become a fully fledged member of our wonderfull trafic police, you first need to have a sense of humor bypass!!

Since when does having a number on teh door automatically mean you are competing is any sort of motorsport? For your insurance to be invalid for that they would have to prove you were using it for motorsport

It really sucks that you have to take the attitude when you are in the right and havent done anything wrong. If you get caught speeding, ok talk down to me. I still wont like it but id deserve it. but the check of some of these blokes. I got lip from one copper once because I HADN'T BEEN DRINKING! I was obviously camped outside the pub I came out of waiting to catch people. He pulled me over and asked if I had been drinking to which I replied no I hadnt. So he asked me again.... same answer "nope". So he says "so your trying to tell me you have just come out of a pub on a lunch time and you havent had one drink?" I couldnt believe this guys! I told him I dont drink at all when I am driving, its a rule I have so he told me to "get outta here then, and go about your day" he was an absolute tool.

theres only 4 traffic cops (cars) covering the whole of birmingham, like someone else said most police dont have the foggyest when it comes to the law on cars.

i know a lad who got pulled over he wasnt doing anything serious, but the police wanted to take him back the police station. (they wanted to do him for nicking his dads car, when they'd followed him back to his house, where he parked it on the drive, where it was registered).

they said youve been arrested for "this" offence do you understand?

he replied no, at which point they had to give him there hand book which outlines all the laws and sections etc.

he proceded to read through this book 5 times on the kerb. he said he mustve been there over 45minutes.

in the end they just left.
