tut, garrett are you having a laugh? I'm trying to find information on this topic on various websites and telling your everybody to go and look for themselves.

Well i'm trying to write an email to VOSA here, and now you've gone and deleted the info you gave in the first place! How can i check?

How is anybody going to be able to see if this info is correct if your acting like that?

this is what i sent to my dad in an email.

Right I am friends with some of the worlds top vehicle modders and there is some serious unrest.

One of the UK's greatest vehicle modders and world record holders Andy Saunders has sent me an email.
If its from him then its 100% true and not an elaborate hoax

Please remove the email from ANDY. You dont have rights to this as you have re-posted this information after I have removed it.

Sorry am I missing something here? From the original post:

3) As from 2012 it will be illegal to carry out any modifications to a vehicle registered 2012 or newer. No spoilers, etc

Why is everyone getting their knickers in a twist, the very last classic mini was registered in 2001 so it only affects cars registered after 2012 which havnt even been built yet!

But it also states (sorry to quote Shaun):

"Your MOT after 2012 will have a box for the MOT tester to tick if the vehicle is modified from its standard form.
Any mods to engine/suspension/brakes,body (I.e large body kits or large arches etc), chassis mods like scamps etc, stripped out rally looks and anything thats alters the vehicles appearance."

i got stopped by the rozzers today! just a "routine" vechile check! they had a vechile inspector from VOSA in the back of the car, he inspected my mini, was very happy with it, even commented on how the pivot on my handbreak mechinism still pivoted!! he never mentioned anything about any new law coming in for moddified cars though!

heres a standard sprite, minus the arches:

and here is my sprite:

i would say its fairly modified, i dont know if you would count it as significant or not! i would of hoped and thought that if it was true then he would of said something to me while he was inspecting the car!

I'd have told him to *melon* off, if its got a valid MOT, he doesnt have any right to inspect your car imo.

i was thinking of sueing as they didnt give me any record for stopping me.......

but nah, the blokes were ok tbf, had a laugh with them! i explained why my tyres were a bit scrubbed on the sides and they were absolutly fine about it, even told me they were still legal as the middle 3/4 of the tyre had tread left! they did say they stopped me because they could see i had done a lot of work to it!

tbf, i have been expecting getting stopped like this, young kid, older car, fairly modified...............

Im not saying your car is standard, far from it. But the modifications that this applies too, I think are things that will dramaticly change the cars, performance, strength, rigidity. Like a shorty, or a limo or something like that.

Bolt on mod's don't reaaaaly affect a car that much do they.

Do rally cars need a valid MOT to race? If so how will they get around that one?

yep, they do...

"er...hi can i have an MOT"
"yep ok its in the post"

sorted *ahem*

dont need to be so childish, this has happened before and again toys have left the pram after being questioned.
im not worried, there will always be ways round it, just think...how else do you think people get round legislation, loop holes, ones closed there's more

no, but he didnt open the bonnet, for all he knows i might of had a 1380 under the bonnet with all uprated cams, cranks, pistons etc

Yeaaaaahhh, who'd have all that? >_<

Yes a 1380 may need a couple of things, like engine steadies etc but still, the car was designed to take an a-series engine, so I don't think something like that would require an IVA or an engineers report. Where as a vtec or vauxhaul conversion, in my opinion would benefit from some sort of inspections, you never know who glued in an engine.

but a car that was standard with 53bhp that now has 103 bhp is going to need more than an ultimate engine steady! when my mate built his 1380, his normal insurance company (fleet) wanted an engineers report on it...

even if you did have a 1380 (i wish i did!) i don't think that will matter. 1380's were always compatible with Mini's. I think these new laws will apply to the guys completely changing whats underneath the Mini shell (RWD conversions, chassis from other cars modified to fit the shell, V8 transplants etc) if you're simply upgrading a 998 to 1275 (which im hoping to do in the near future) or a 1275 to a 1380, it wont change the car as dramatically as the examples above would.

i know that, and i can see how you would say mine isnt significanytly moddified in comparison to a z cars mini! but how many "moddified" minis on here dont have a series engines? not that many! so what is all the huge fuss about if you dont think mine is going to be classed in it!?

but i still think if it was true, he would of said something to me!
