looks good, give it a flat down with 800 wet-n-dry then give it a second coat of paint, then flat it with 1500 then give it a polish it will look perfect

Not this time . Just been back to have another look and it's cack. Not sprayed out of the gun evenly at all, which i thought was the case. It's kinda sprayed different size particles so it's given a rough surface. Not sure whether that means the paint was too lumpy, not sprayed on thick enough, or what really . Gonna have a read up tonight.

And LMAO Sean!!

What did you paint it in 2k or celly?

From the pictures it looks like the paint was too thick or the gun pressure wasn't high enough to atomise the paint enough?

2K paint. I'm 99% sure that the viscosity was fine, and spraying pressure was abut 2.5 bar, as recommended on the sheet . It was mixed up for a good 5 mins before I started spraying. Nozzle size is correct, using a Devilbiss GTI suction feed gun.

hi well looks good from the picture but i had a problem with 2k 2 weeks ago. my dad is a professional sprayer has been spraying for 10 years and he paint my bike in the colout im spraying my mini as when he was spraying the finish was shiney but lot of orange peal. alot of this was dew to the temperature as it was only 11 deegres also he didnt use thinners as he said it would make the finish even worse. but the main factor he said was the setup of the gun like the nozzle sizes and amount of air etc. but i spent a day using 2000grit wet and dry and i brought some lacquer and it perfect now it could have just been polished but i had to put stickers on the frame so wanted to lacquer over them. and when he does my car he is going to us fair bit of thinners and more coasts

hope you sort it mate

good luck

Josh

It could be due to temperature then?. It's about 15 degrees in there. I didn't use any thinners, as it didn't recommend / need any. The other thing I'm struggling with is getting the gun setup to be honest! It only has 2 adjustment knobs, but I have no idea what they do, as I have no instructions. For the primer, I just adjusted it till it felt right, and it came out pretty well. I was gonna try using another gun, but with a 1.4mm nozzle it wasn't suitable for the 2K topcoat.

Depending on the temp you can add up to 15% thinners, if its really warm then 5%, when its cold 15%

On the gun there should be 3 knobs

1 is for paint flow(usually the top one) set this flat out!!

1 is for air flow(usually the bottom one Set this flat out!!

1 if for spray pattern(usually the middle one) set this so it gives a clean oval shaped spray patter(bit like a ladys private bits!!)

Thinking about!!

I use gravity fed guns so my descriptions may be arse about face!!

Deffo only got 2 knobs!. The cheapo Clarke one we have has 3 though.

I can't seem to get a nice spray pattern though. It doesn't feel wide enough, more like an aerosol can . Instructions would really help  .

I'd reckon the paints too thick. As you've only got 2 knobs(oooh err!!)

The 2 knobs (I think) will control spray pattern and paint flow(don't quote me)

Get some 2k thinners and give it another go.

That sounds about right to be honest. Spray pattern and paint flow rate sounds right as well, but can't seem to get a nice flat spray pattern with this. Maybe I'm just being a retard though!!

I'm annoyed now so I'm going back over there to get the gun, so I can read up tonight

It could be due to temperature as my dad said really it needs to be 20 deegrees plus. And thinners is a must for a nice coat as it will flow better. and the gun he has only has 2 knobs and his is a Devilbiss bit of a old 1 though.
