I was inspired after reading waht Kez had been up to so I decided to have a go myself. I started off with a spare HIF44 dashpot that was in typical condition

After an hours worth of wet sanding with various grades of paper and then polishing with Autosol on my rotary polisher, these were the results

Quite pleased with how it came out. I have clear coated it and is currently drying in the shed.

Reading through that polishing guide, it recommends Sonax hardwax to protect the surface, Lacquer chips, then water gets under it and you have to redo the whole process.

Not too bad really, only took about 40 mins, Cleaned the grime off with a scrubber and some engine cleaner, the 400 w&d then 600 then some cutting compound, then some autoglym metal polish.

Not quite as good as yours though.

I have just been down to halfords and bought some spinney things for the drill, had a look at the autosol too, seems to be the same as the autoglym metal polish that i have.
