what a bleeming day.
Well i thought it would take me a couple of hours to replace the alternator and swap the 6 hoses for slicone one.
Started at 10 this morning expecting to be in the house by 2 supping a beer car washed and polished and in the garage ready for tomorrow.
Well old alternator came off no problems and so did the hoses. Had a bit of a panic as i thought the hose kit was all ready pre cut and ready to fit. Not realising you get 4 hoses and have to cut them to length.
New Alternator was easy to do, took about 15 mins to put it in and tighten up properly. Great start I thought.
Problem 1 - started as I was removing the bottom hose. I noticed that the feeder pipe to the heater matrix was too small for the joining piece.
Solution 1 - After about 45 mins of trying to get it to fit Ii eneded up at a local garage where they gave me a hydraulic line joint from a truck to make it fit. RESULT!!!!!!
Problem 2 - Came as i was trying to fit the bottom hose. I put the jubilee clip the wrong way and while trying to remove the hose so i could turn the clip round the bit of the radiator came off with it. I could have cried. I have now got a runied radiator and its 11:30 on a saturday morning. 30 mins to find something before everywhere shuts.
Solution 2 - After calls to Clark McDonnald and Mini spares to check things I finally bit the bullet and Canabalised Ghosty for his radiator just to get the car running again
Problem 3 - Ghosy wasn't giving up his radiator without a fight. The bottom jubillee clip was rusted solid. The hex nut was rounded and the screw slot ended up breaking.
Solution 3 - brute force with a screw driver to break the clip. Im so glad i have lots of clips spare.
Problem 4 - After Ghosty's radiator was put into the Green Goblin and all the hoses fitted and tightened time to fill up and test it. Jumped in turned the key.......CLICK First thought i have run the battery flat so checked the voltage of the battery. nope fine. checked fuses, all Fine.
Solution 4 - In the end it was a faulty Relay. Ghosty to the rescue again. Swapped his relay for hers and she fired up instantly
6 hours it took in the end. So much for my couple of hours work...
Green Goblin is now running fine and is outside now waiting on her final polish for tomorrow. Ghosty however is needing a relay and a radiator. But at least we have a car for tomorrow.
Anyway after all that here is her new shiny hoses and alternator.

im pasting this from my project thread as i cant be arsed typing it again.
