Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to post. Turned out that the inlet manifold flanges were thicker than the exhaust ones and needed grinding down. Well, who'd have thought! So thanks to all who suggested that. The mechanic also tuned the carb a bit and it is running like a good 'un. Loving it!
