I've had a toad alarm in the past, not on a Mini though and it was great... although I have no idea if they work, because no one every broke into my car.

Anyway, I wouldn't ever recommend fitting an alarm yourself, wiring into the engine management system/ignition is something that should be left to professionals, one wrong wire and your engine wont start, will continually cut out, or in some cases turn off.

I'm also 99% sure that you have to have it professionally fitted to get your insurance approved certificate??

Ai606 is a very good and reliable alarm. Ive fitted many over the years and touch wood, not a single problem. They come with interior sensors, and the standard boot, door and bonnet protection. You can also add optional sensors such as 2 stage shock, microwave sensors, tilt. The Toad Ai606 Interactive also allows you to track your vehicle if stolen.

cheers for the reply, i think i will get the Ai606 rather than the stirling one! where is the best place to mount the control box (im guessing the alarm unit gets placed in the engine bay)

Think of somewhere imaginative - I could say on the bulkhead behind the trim but that's where almost everyone puts them and would be the first place someone looking to disable the alarm would look. Also when you are done, don't post up about what you've got and where it's hidden!
