Almost done the panel work. Im happy with the fit of it all now, so have proceeded to bolt the wings and front panel to the inner wings so I can get a few welds in place.

Since the last pics, Ive found the bonnet to be bent as I was having trouble with it being raised too high much in the middle. It was sitting about 12mm above the scuttle in the middle. So the bonnet has been sent back and the original bonnet will be used as this gives almost perfect panel gaps and very neat fit along the top edge.

New Spax adjustable lowered dampers now also fitted and will be ordering the rubber cones etc some time soon.

Its only way of doing it imo. Rest of the car is totally rot free, so would be a shame to bodge it. Ive a 5p size hole under the petrol tank..I promise I wont cut the boot floor out though!!

nightmare mate. So far Ive only managed to get away with 1 patch which was around the bonnet hinge/bulkhead panel...............i think the price of a bulkhead (£350 ish) put me right off!

Somewhat a little void in the progress updates of late but Ive not been stood with my fingers up my bum. Last week I slowly started to undo all the engine ancillaries and prepare to remove the subframe with engine etc attached. Got this out with very little fuss this weekend however a few siezed cotter pins caused a little casualty with regards to the gear selector rod..........

anyways, here is what needs doing over the next week or so.

After a weekend of swearing, smashed knuckles and kicking stuff around the most siezed nuts Ive ever encountered have been removed with my trust hammer, chisel and mole grips. What made it even worse was the extremely tight space I had to work in. Anyways the path is clear to tackle the last bit of under bonnet rot.

Posted Image

I wont be replacing the whole cross memeber as its deemed unnecessary, Im going to cut off the top of the box section and replace it with fresh steel.

the nearside is solid exept for the surface rust

Favorite part of any project.................new parts!!!!

My Minisport adjusta ride kit turned up along with the new gear selector rod.

Got bit more done, started to remove the rust as this panel isnt going to be replaced. Its going to be plated. A load of cutting/grinding later it looked like this:

Posted Image

The eagle eyed amonst you will have noticed that during this work I found another hole................behind the front damper mounting point. The O/S is far worse, than the N/S.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This also needs drilling and tapping as one of the bolts snapped.

Posted Image

This bracket sits under the crossmember panel and is a support for the clutch reservior, servo and pedals. The bolts are going to be cut out and replaced with new metric items as I beat the living day lights out of the nuts to remove the reservoir & servo bracket.

Posted Image

As my front is going to be removable, and the above panel work now needs doing, Im going to stitch the wings/front panel at the seams before I take it all off to do the said repairs.

Posted Image

Instead of using visible fastners for the removable front, Im going to make a bracket that fits the 2 bolts on the arches so it all looks smooth from the outside.

Not much happening but:

Started to make up the patch, just needs holes drilling.
Posted Image

Cut the rust out ready for double skinned patch.
Posted Image

Welded the inside seams up so the front can now be removed as a one pieces item.
Posted Image

Making life easier by removing everything, unfortunately have put a few burns in the new corbeaus!

Evening all, I'm back. After around 4 years of being away from this project it's time to get back on it. This week I'm trying to organise the car to travel 300 odd miles so I can continue where I left off.

I will be needing some advice as you can imagine I have no idea where half the bits have been removed from.
