1980 mini 1000. Centre speedo.
My reverse lights do not work. i decided to replace the reverse light switch.(Frankly impossible to replace via the underside if you have an exhaust fitted)
I replaced this eventually by accessing the housing by removing the gearstick gaiter and the other bits covering the aperture.
This didn't solve the problem. Some prodding around with a 12v tester revealed power at the new switch. I then discovered that one of the two wires which travel up behind the heater had been cut. (there is a green wire and a green/red wire) ...its the green/red wire which is severed and no amount of feeling around behind the heater and examination with a lamp has exposed the other half.
can someone help with the tracing of this wire?
I assume it extends up through the bulkhead to within some part of the loom behind the centre speedo and maybe linked to the fusebox somewhere.
Thanks
Andy

Green wire is the live from the fusebox as you've found and the green/red (actually green/brown) goes to the rear lights. So if you don't fancy ripping out the speedo etc, you could just run a extra wire to the lights.

Would it require a connection of the green/brown wire to both reverse lamps?(integral reverse lamps in the cluster)

Yes if your gonna run it straight to the lights, you could even if your not to bothered about appearance just scotch lock it onto the green/brown wire from the light itself and then over to the other reversing light. Not pretty but would be fine.
