Sorry to those who don't have an iPhone I'm just curious to see who else is updating straight away.

Where do you download the update from?
I`ve been on the Apple website and can`t find it
Plug in your iphone and allow itunes to start. Under the Summary tab for your iPhone there is an Update button in the Version section. Click it and it will pop up saying that there is a new version to download.

How long is 'some time'? It's nearly 1am now - how long do I need to wait?
If it gets to quarter past I'm going to bed *yawn*

My first MMS has just gone - and been received 'hurrah'
So fingers crossed
If I get any problems I'll be back on here to see if anybody else is having them
Happy iPhoning

Well even though I started this thread I still haven't updated my phone yet!!!! I'm still waiting for the jailbreak release.
That's what I'm doing too - I want the 3.0 firmware but still want my options for customising too.

what can you do differently when you have the jailbreak thing?
The main things are;
Customisation of the look & feel i.e. themes, ringtones, layouts etc...
Free open source apps - works in the same was as app store but for open source e.g. turn-by-turn navigation (not tomtom)
Ability to get around the lack of flash/java so that you can stream almost all web content
Free skype like apps that can work over 3G and do not require WiFi
There is a lot more to it but the list above is brief summary of what you can do. You can also unlock the phone so it can be used on any network but I would not recommend anyone doing that.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend messing around with jailbreaking unless you know what you're doing and are prepared to take a risk as Apple won't support it if it goes wrong. The iPhone is very good in standard form but I like to tweak things and mess around (the geek in me coming out)
good look with getting on with what you've got
