I really dont want to spend money on an engine crane so I need to remove both subframes and the engine with just these:

http://i600.photobuc...-06-09_1857.jpg

So thats a hydrolic lift,
3 scissor jacks,
4 axle stands.

I can also get a few pallets from work and put wheels on them maybe.

Any suggestions or suggetions on what I could buy on the cheap?

Thanks in advance!

easy peasy just unbolt the front sub frame and disconnect everything then lift the shell over the engine a easy 1 man job made even easier with an assistant :(

But you could easily turn it into a two finger job: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item4ce888c6ac

I've never removed & fitted an engine easyer (and cheaper) :(

Did you try that!? I nearly broke my back and even as we were two it was too heavy... Might be different with a fully stripped car (no glas, no doors, no seats no anything). But not if everything's still in place. :dontgetit: But maybe I'm just a wimp :( :P

@analoque_radio:

Hehe - I have the exactely same jack :D Does you way work in - er - reverse? :)

hi, easiest way i have found in my limited opinion is to disconnect every ancillary as normal, drain the oil, pop the driveshaft pots from the diff so you don't have to disturb the steering or suspension, jack the car as high as you safely can, support the car on the front foremost of the floor all the way across(scaffold board and axle stands) build a sturdy and safe tower underneath the sump, then lower the car back onto the ground, the engine will now be sitting nice and high in the engine bay, two strong people can lift it out and over the front panel now, and the car can still roll away, or find your nearest hire centre, organise a day to lift and rent one, approx £15 to save your back!!!!

bah you must be all girly and puny Lol
I am no muscle man but I can do it easy ;)
and once the frame is out 1 person power is easy enough to move the shell anywhere I want on my crater filled drive/garden :P

that said I have done loads of engine transplants on my own with no lifting gear other than my arms and back and not just the mini's little lump ;)

what i find easiest is to disconnect everything;

all ancilaries, carb, manifold, gearlinkage, servo etc

whack it on axel stands, pop the balljoints, driveshafts out

get a scaffold pole rest it above the wings tie some thick rope around it and to the engine, get 2 mates, 1 to help you lift the other end and one to guide it out.

undo the brake lines from the front calipers, remove the complete driveshaft assemnbly

jack the car up on the subframe with some wood in the middle to spread the load

put your front wheels underneath the crossmember again with a plank of wood to spread the load

then undo the subframe mounts and lower it down

job done

probably the best bet yet although i was thinking of removing the engine attached to the subframe. The same engine is going back in atm, just need a shell to respray. hmm?

just unbolt etc as I say above
then jack the body up then its a damn sight easier than lifting the lump out the hole
