I have painted all my welds with two good coats of zinc primer then seam sealered over the top.Making sure that there is no rust to start with.Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply pete, when you seam sealered for example the outer seam from doorstep to outer sill did you just put seam sealer in the gap on the adge or paint it above below and in the gap?

hope that makes sence!

try to put seam sealer in the geap also.. it might leave it looking a bit messy, but from what i remember theres a strip that goes over the seam there anyway..
steer clear from upol grey stripe seam sealer, i used it before and as minipete did i sprayed on a zinc primer before appying seam sealer, the sealer reacted with the primer and cracked..........
i use dinitrol seam sealer instead, it costs a little more but it doesnt react with primer of paint...

You are clearly doing something wrong.

I've painted Upol seam sealer of Zinc primer and not had any problems atall. and ive also painted of the seam sealer with other various paints on different parts of the car with no problems atall.

I thought I'd replied to this, but I must have pressed the wrong key......
I put seam sealer in a mk1 Kadett, must be 15 years ago. Its still got the same paint job, and the sealer has'nt cracked.

Hay all had my first go at seam sealing...... ummmm . .. .. .. . . not as useable is i hoped was very very stick / slimey, but was thicker than i hoped so on application its very smooth on apperance, its covered the seams like it says on the tin but was hoping on something thinner.

have you had this happen and is there anything to maybe thin it slightly?

thanks

We buy sealer in brush on tins - ideally for painting on with a brush in places like edges of floors and sills.

We buy stuff in a tube, cant remember its name. Fits in a gun and with a pin hole in the end, its brilliant for finishing the seams around the front bumper lip where it means the front panel, scuttle corners and such.

Paint supplies will give better products/advice then halfords and the usual motor factors.

i like seam sealer, especialy when using an ordinary hobby welder rather than something decent. with the hobby ones i never seem to get a decent run, as such i have to grind the weld afterwards.
i had the u-pol stuff from halfords, rather than brushing it on i used an old credit card or similar spread it up the weld lip, only a very small amount i might add and it makes it look much better and just seals those little holes i miss with the hobby welder
