Hi
My P reg MPI Mini with only 1600 miles on the clock has been giving me a bit of bother lately. It starts perfectly every time but often cuts out within seconds. Also when driving along and taking my foot off the Gas to slow down for a junction it often just cuts out as well. When stopped in in trafic I am constantly anxious that its going to cut out just before the lights changed and obviously I am worried about a rear end shunt. The car is well serviced, I recently changed plugs.oil and air filter and leads look clean. What could this problem be........no Rover dealers in my areas and I would imagine I would have to go to them for the electronic diagnostic test?
Its getting so I dont want to go out in it because it drives so Rubbish.
Thanks in advance
Paul

The car may be suffering from two faults rather than one. One or the other may not be as noticeble but the two together may cause the engine to stall at idle

The two most common faults on injection engines as follows

Check ALL vacuum lines especialy the thin black ones for splits and tightness, the ends of these are prime suspect as the split very easily and if the car is of decent age then they may be worth changing anyway. When was the last time the oxygen sensor was changed, if it wasn't recently then change it to. These are suposed to be changed every 30 thousand miles or two years and more often than not get overlooked, they only cost about £30 for a universal one rather than the £80 for the OEM ones.

Has the fuel filter been replaced?

Isn't it great when a problem is so easily solved
