So yer, all is well, the good news is I DROVE IT, 2 whole miles, just low rpm medium load to check for any det in the map (cheers lee303 for the base). Seems nice, all the brakes work, no real problems. Bit of slap and tappets when its cold, but nothing to worry about, dissappears when its warm.

Jobs for this weekend, blue injectors putting on that ive just bought, cambelt cover, shot blast and paint the new rocker cover, go for a drive!

Cheers

Al, help!

What alternator are you using?

My Allspeed mount and the standard alternator is just a stupid combo. I much prefer your idea and fancy doing something very similar and trying to stick it all under a standard steel front. FACT!

It's a dinky Nippon Denso one - fitted to quite a few small Jap cars like Daihatsus and stuff like that. I got one on the unfinished project I bought for the subframe that's going in mine.

Looks remarkably similar to the Brise 8172?

I've beenlooking for Denso ones on eBay, but the fiddy ones are only 40A and I worry that it'll not be man enough.

As jr said, densos.

I think the brises are densos mate, just re-branded and doubled in price, much the the SBD 'race' alternators, lol!

I can get you one if you want for about £20-30, hid one in my local scrapyard, hope its still there!

If you got any good scrappys around you just send an hour on tinternet familiarizing yourself with the alternator appearances and then go at look for a mk1 micra, subaru justys, daihatsus (especially).

Is defiantly the way to go, the allspeed ones hang the alternator too far away from the engine, not good!

edit: ooo just saw the last bit, mines 40A, seems fine, way over 14v, copes with 2 fuel pumps, electric fan, ecu, wideband etc etc

Yer, I'll find one.

Saw a few similar ones in the local scrappy.

Did some quick power consumption calcs earlier.....40A will be aaaallreet, I reckon.

You got any close up piccies of the mount? I'm not sure if I'm
gonna have the clearance under the standard roundnose. Am seriously contemplating converting to a steel Clubby front.

Aah, that's cool.

I'm just wondering whether it'll fit under, so thought if I saw your mount, I'd get an idea of where it sits..

I'm gonna go for that, tucked up as close to the block as possible.

Need a new drive belt for it anorl. Money money money!

Tell me about it (and my inner wings are good!). That's if you can find anywhere who's got any in stock - Think I may have found bonnet & front panel but wings are proving elusive to day the least!

Have a look for a Toyota Yaris as they have small Denso's on and are a bit more likely to be in the scrappies than the small Daihatsus or Justys. Well, if my local scrappies are owt to go by anyway.

Well, my mission was to go roundnose. But seeing Al's clubby variant has started to make me think more about going for the clubman front.
