I'm having problems getting a good seal around my tappet bolts. Initially I used the seals that came with my gasket set but these failed and split (maybe I over tightened them) so I pop to my local auto supply store and buy a pack of rubber sealing washers.

I use the most appropriate looking ones and even put a smidge of RTV round to help but I think it's leaking from here again!

Any tips on sorting this out?

Cheers :D

They are tricky little *rat weasels* aren't they. The problem i found with mine is that in order to get the main cover tight enough not to leak i had to (chose to) over tighten the bolt - causing the same problem you have with the bolt seal.

As you say - a very thin bead of RTV might solve the problem - Personally i think you're just going to have to try it out and see what happens. Make sure no RTV seeps into the tappet chest when you tighten it up.

difficult!
