when i bought my mini it came with a big bore manifold and a 2" straight pipe going to a back bock think a dtm one. great for performance but its way to loud really loud. i've had sports exhaust but this unbelievable
does any one have any ideas of how to reduce the noice.
one person mentioned about using a cherry bomb silencer but not sure about that.
has any one had the same problem or has an idea on how to reduce the volume.
thanks steve

The DTM is possibly one of the loudest boxes you can get for a mini regardless of how many silencers you have.... i would recommend buying a link pipe with a silencer in the middle to replace the straight through link pipe you currently have fitted.
These are Available from Minispares pretty cheaply.

some people say a 2" is to large do u think i should buy a smaller quiter exhaust.
which do u think would be better for performance

DTMs are pretty bad for performacne, especially with a straight through pipe and ever more so with a full two inch system.
A nice RC40 system will be quieter and better performing.

If you think that drainpipe is great for performance wait till you try a proper Maniflow or RC40 system!

Yes that will be loud. I used to have an identical system on my clubman made by playmini - sounds nice though - but is loud.

Probably the finest exhaust for a Mini not needing a cat is the Maniflow system with a 1.75" internal diameter pipe, a 'cherry bomb' silencer then a Maniflow back box and a centre exit final pipe. It is fairly quiet, although it was on the noise limit for rallying. Alternatively, a 2-box RC40 system is great. It's not so well-made as the Maniflow, but should be a bit cheaper and is quiet, whilst still sounding good.
A 2" diameter system will lose several bhp due to the exhaust gas velocity being too slow in normal driving. Really on a 1275 or bigger, a 2" system will show a power loss unless you are above about 6000 rpm and using high-overlap cam, big valve head and big carbs. That's why race cars have bigger exhausts as they rev to 8000 in many cases and the amount of exhaust gas to be removed is proportionally higher.
