Hello,

I'm in the process of spraying some old steel wheels. I have them etch primered and primered, and now I'm looking for a durable paint to topcoat. I was thinking plastikote but I have never used it before - is this a suitable paint for this application?

Any other suggestions would be great. They're not worth powdercoating but I fear that normal car aerosols may be too thin.

Thanks

Plastikote enamel will be just fine - infact there's a couple of ratlook VW's round where i live that have been completely sprayed in plastikote - very resistant stuff indeed.

Most rattle cans only put a thin layer down due to all the proppellent that's included in the can - always more propellent than paint - but if you get some good quality rattle cans you'll find coverage is much thicker and easier to work - nozzles make a huge difference too....

I'd suggest building it up in a few thin layers to make one good layer.

**They do a brand called 'Protekt' - it's not bad stuff at all

You can also get wheel paint, I used some for the wheels and centres of the brake discs on my motorbike, must have been on there 6 or 7 years and never got damaged.
I was sure to rub down first, and painted straight onto the metal in a series of thin layers.

Several thin coats and jobs a good-un.

On an aside, I have also used metallic purple Plastikote, with it's matching laquer, to repaint a guitar.
