Thanks for the comment Peter.

Just a very quick update.

Remember on the last post I said I had a development on the colour?

Well, I originally wanted orange with a black roof but there seems to be quite a few about at the moment (nothing wrong with that) so I started looking for alternatives.

I looked through the original mini colours and saw the Surf Blue and although listed for very late cars saw it was also available in the late 60's. And, given that I have gone back to 10's with some group 2 arches I thought this may be a good option.

So whilst I was at my friendly paint shop I asked him to mix me some up and as I was off work, I had a play about.

Here's just a glimpse.......

That was the dream.

Here's the reality....

Still, it gives me an idea of what is hopefully in store a little way down the line. Quite a bit if work to do before I get the finished coat on though.

That's all for this one

Catch you all soon

Regards

Steve

Hi there,

Really like those arches. Whilst I look through the rest of the thread. Can i ask where you got them from and how much they stick out at the top (centre). I like the rears, wrapping round past the seam. Also are your wheels 10 x 6's ?

Cheers

Hi Hubba Hubba
Sorry for the delay in responding, I don't come on here as much now due to lots of other things going on.

The arches are minisport Group 2 wide, I can't remember exactly how wide at the top but I'll try and measure over the weekend for you.

The wheels are indeed 6 x 10's

Regards

Steve

Hello, great mini, alot of attention to detail. can I ask what you wired the facet fuel pump into? I see you've used a relay. Thanks.

Hi Jagman

Sorry it's took a while to get back to you.

Thank you for your comments, they are appreciated.

The Facet pump is wired via a relay and a fuel cut off switch. The feed for the relay comes via a fuse, direct from the battery and the control for the relay is live when the ignition is on position 2.

The cut off switch is in the main circuit to the pump, not within the relay control circuit.

Posted Image

Lots available on ebay and the like if you search on "rover fuel cut off switch". I think they are all the same and can be had for a few pounds.

Let me know if you need any more information

Regards

Steve

Hi & Happy New Year to you all.

Well, as the mini is out & about, being used as much as is practical, the updates are few & far between. Little bits ongoing but nothing worthy of an update.

I have a couple of additions planned and the 1275 rebuild has made a start with the first purchase. What was it? Well, for now I'll keep that bit to myself but it is a start.

So for this update, it is an eventual solution to a problem that has been irritating me ever since I fitted the stereo.

Right from the beginning, I didn't want an aerial on the wing, and despite my (partial) retro look, I'm not a fan of the classic roof aerials and saw the sharkfin item as a fairly sublte way to perform the function.

Posted Image

Whether I bought a duff one of not I don't know but its about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

Now that I had a large hole in the rear of the roof, the "what do I replace it with" along with the thought of pulling the rear screen etc etc, I left it as was & listened to the CD / MP3.

Then I saw one of those interior units, the ones you stick to the window. As ugly as a bucket of frogs in my opinion but I read about someone who fitted it to the inner roof, above the headlining, so I bought one. Cue "the chocolate teapot".

So I keep looking and started looking at OEM roof aerials. Well it didn't take long to figure that if I wanted one fitted to the rear of the roof, there was only one real option (Purists, please look away now), one off a BMW Mini.

Couldn't believe what they were selling for, but managed to find one locally in the end at a breakers for under a tenner.

So, out with the rear screen

Posted Image

Removed the old unit and the effect on the paint wasn't half as bad as I had expected.

Posted Image

The roof needs a repaint anyway, but that's another story.

Quick tweak with the file and the replacement was fitted.

As the sharkfin one I took out was supposed to be an amplified unit, there was already a 12v supply in place. I had to modify the coax and put a standard plug on to go in the extension lead as the BMW has a specific connector.

And the result?

Perfect reception and it means that I can finally listen to the radio on the move. :-)

That's all for this one. As always, thanks for looking

Steve

Brilliant Steve, glad you got it sorted in the end. I quite like the look of that one as well. Still no use over 40mph though?

Cheers

Hi Graham

Thanks for the comments.

Is that "rethink" because you do or don't like?

I can't believe I've reached the end of this thread. I've honestly been here for five hours reading this thread. Since I was lucky enough to get a car that only needed upgrades to suit my tastes (driving lights, interior modifications, stereo) I've become especially interested in the work you've done in the past year. Since I'm in the US I don't have the opportunity to view parts in showrooms so a trusted opinion of a part's quality is really important to me. That being said - can you name a few companies that you've used in your build that you would recommend? Specifically in the production of your interior trim and wiring. I'd like to eventually get my car looking half as good as yours!

Thanks for your time!

Cheers,
Rich

Hi.

If you check back a few pages in the build thread, you can see where I made them.

If you have access to a fabrication shop, should be fairly straighforward to replicate.

Good luck

Steve

Hi Rich

Many thanks for your comments

I have always tried to buy good quality parts with my rebuild but even then, some of the parts from even the most respected suppliers sometimes leaves a little to be desired.

I have used mainly (but not exclusively)

MOSS
Mini Sport
Minispares

I have to say that in all cases, I have received excellent service and any (minor) problems have been resolved without fuss.

Regards the wiring, i got a lot of bits from a company called cable ties direct, based in Sheffield [email protected]. I'm sure however there will be similar businesses nearer to home. Likewise with the interior, whilst Andy and the team at optimise did a cracking job, the cost of shipping I'm guessing, would be prohibitive.

Hope ths helps

Best regards

Steve
