Excellent work again,..for the last year doing up my mini, I have re-visited your tread very often and picked up some nice ideas, amazing the attention to detail and the "easyness" of finishing touches, and your logic thinking.

Can't wait to see your next project Steve.

Cheers

Hi Zac, thanks for your comments. I'll be having a go at pinching your idea on the ignition switch soon so no problems at all.

I'm not using that "BAD-WORSE-OFF" panel any more now I have the carbon.

Drop me a PM with your address and I'll stick in in the post to you.

Regards

Steve

Hi Alex

See below for the carbon bits. Really nice people to deal with.

Hi mate

Great reading your post. I may have missed it as it's such a long read but do you have any more info on the boot section of your car? I'm interested in putting the fog light as you have it and also ditching the standard boot light for some LEDs. Any info\pictures you have would be helpful but no worries if you want to keep it to yourself!!! ;D

thanks
andy

Hi fellow TMF'ers

A while since I last updated and my first (I think) update on the new forum layout

As always, many thanks for the comments.

So, what have I been up to? Well, apart from working a lot & spending far too many hours on the motorway network, I have been doing a little bit of pottering on the mini.

A few weeks ago, I bought some wooden door cappings in need of a bit of TLC from Pinhead

Posted Image

Posted Image

Wood doesn't go with my interior theme, but then I knew that. - Carbon mods to the rescue !!

Some sanding

Posted Image

And then wrapped in genuine Carbon

Posted Image

I have since coated with the resin, sanded, more resin, sanded again, followed by six coats of laquer.

First attempt so not perfect but they do look mighty fine even if I do say so myself.

Will upload more pictures when I dig them out again.

I have also been doing a bit of modification to the sound system and have some new speakers for the front.

But the best bit.......................................................

Well they say pictures speak a thousand words.

And the fronts?

A little bit of a storey there which I'll not go into now. Suffice to say, they aren't too far away.............I hope!

Will have another update soon

Thanks for looking

Regards

Steve

Little additional update after todays work

Thanks for the comments chaps

Louis: Yes those are the ones.

Graham: Many thanks, taken a while but worth it

Dale: I put lots on because I seem to have the habit of rubbing it all away when I flat it back. Looks good now though.

I put the front door cards on today but it meant taking the plasic off that I had used because the butyl strip I used for attaching it was too thick. My pal gave me some offcuts of some stuff they use on joints, that he says will hold the water out.

Posted Image

Door card at the ready

Posted Image

Had to open out the top locating rail as the leather on the door card is much thicker than the old vinyl

Posted Image

Made another small purchase as well..... Top quality :D

Posted Image

Will get the rest either at Stanford if there is an offer or after me hols!

Passenger side as well

Posted Image

Door caps polished and in place. Not sure if I should get black screws or not

Posted Image

Posted Image

And the rears with the caps in place (Chrome trims are on order)

Posted Image

Posted Image

And finally, a slightly better one of the rear without the shadows.

Posted Image

Done the gear & handbrake gaiter as well but didn't get a picture. Will add another day.

And the best bit....................................

Should be picking up the front seats and the dash covers tomorrow which means I'll be going to Stanford in the mini !!!!!!

Will update with more pic's when I get them

Thanks for stopping by

Regards

Steve
