Hi Steve,

high standard as usual, but I would be worried about the reversing lights passing an mot. Have you asked them already??

Hi Graham

Thanks for the comments & concerns. As far as I am aware, the reversing lights don't form part of the MOT but if it was a problem, the lenses could be swapped for std items in a matter of minutes.

I must arrange to come over and see how you are getting on with yours now the weather is getting better.

Regards

Steve

Hi fellow TMF 'ers

I've just checked back re an update and see it's well over a month since I did my last one. I have been doing a few bits here and there, as well as going on holiday and spending many nights away in hotels for work.

Enough of all that, here's what's been going on......

I finally seemed to have cured the water inside the cabin issue and that gave me the go ahead to fit the carpet. I looked at a few options and eventually decided on the Newton Commercial set, confirmed when I noticed MOSS had an offer on over a weekend for some welcome extra discount.

Couple of the before as a reminder

Posted Image

I bought the additional underfelt kit as well to try and get some of the noise down.

Some test fits first before a little minor trimming and the sills stuck on with some evo stick spray carpet adhesive. (picture not great, sorry)

Posted Image

Some more on the front inner wings and up behind the heater.. That was fun !!

Posted Image

Covered the cross member completely before attacking the floor with some Screwfix flashing tape. (2 layers)

I also glued a micro switch to the handbrake wired in parallel to the brake fluid warning light, after a suggestion by Ethel some time ago. (Thanks Ethel)

Posted Image

The supervisor must have been happy with my work as she didn't say anything.........

Posted Image

Once the tape was down I used the spray adhesive to stick down the underfelt.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Before laying the rear carpet in place. (No glue on this)

Went on to do the same for the front

Posted Image

Before again, laying the carpet on top with no fixing required.

Posted Image

I suspect the front will need a minor trim but I'm waiting for it to settle before I attempt anything.

It all looks very smart and I'm happy I went for the Newton set as the fit & quality more than justify the cost. It's also a lot quieter now in the cabin which is an added bonus.

I have a discussion on the go re the rest of the interior and I'll let you know once finalised.

That's all for today, look forward to seeing some of you at Himley

Thanks for stopping by

Regards

Steve

Lovely work Steve. What is the micro switch for and I take it the parallel wiring is so it operates at the same time as the luid warning??

Nice idea with the handbrake switch. Is the fluid level light ignition controlled or permanent? I wouldn't want the switch lit up all night!

just spent the last few hours reading through this, lovely car and shows real determination and fortitude.

my personal favorite parts are the LEDs in the centre speedo (its nice for it to be so well illuminated, and im always going along with the indicators still flashing as i havnt noticed the light on the dash still going in mine!)

also the LED in the door frame, mighth have to steal that idea for on the limo im building.

finally, its great to see your little cat "cookie" looking so happy investigating your mini, we too have a cat and she loves to poke around the cars. thumbs up to you for rescuing her from the RSPCA!

I have spent the last 5 hours reading your post!! Your Mini looks great and is a testament to the time and effort you have put in to all the details, and then share your experiences on here. Thank you. Must get some work done now!!

You've got another follower. I just read all 37 pages and loved it. I love LEDs as well. The first thing I want to do is change my dash to LEDs. It looks way better.

by the way, does that start button really work?

Cheers,

Mcfly

Thanks Graham

The micro switch is to double as a handbrake warning light and a test point for the fluid level indicator. I was advised that there had to be a method of testing the warning function of the fluid level lamp, and as I had removed the test switch I no longer had that.

Ethel mentioned that newer cars use the handbrake warning to perform this function so I popped a micro switch on with some glue (couldn't drill the plate as it's hardened).

I now have a handbrake warning and comply with the bulb test function.

Steve

Hi Benb12

Thanks for the comment. Both the fluid warning and my new handbrake warning operate by completing the earth connection. The led is fed by an igntion controlled source so no problem with the lamp being on all night.

Brudders 338

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

No need to apologise re the rear lights, each to their own. I have to admit that although I still like the idea, the end result is not as neat as I would like. If I come up with something better, they may get swapped out.

Steve

cradley-heathen

Thnak you for your kind comments.

The led's in the dash do make quite a difference, especially for the fuel gauge. Give me a shout if you need any more information. The one in the door, "steal away". If I re-did mine, I would probably buy some different holders for the lamps though.

As for "The Cookster", as she has become known (Peter Kay, Max & Paddy and it will make sense), she's always around when I'm working on the car and can often be found curled up asleep on the rear seat.

Have you a project page for the Limo? would like to see that.

Regards

Steve
