Just contacted Somerford minis about some bodywork, and got this back :( thought you might like to know

Long waiting list

Many thanks for the e-mail. As you would expect, we are unable to give an estimate for any bodywork without seeing the Mini first.

However, as a guide, the refurbishment as described on our website would cost around £4000-4500 incl. VAT.

Somerford Mini Limited have an enviable leading worldwide reputation for the high standard and quality of their refurbs and restoration work. Unfortunately there is a downside to this and that is our waiting list. If it was just a front end or outer sills we would probably be able to fit this in within about 6 -12 months. Anything more extensive such as a refurb we are currently booking into Spring 2011.

Also if you would like to have an estimate, please book an appointment and bring the Mini to us, we will then be able to give you an estimate specific to your Mini. This service is FOC.

We can visit you to discuss the work and look at the Mini, however there is a charge for this depending on whereabouts they have to go.

If you would like to discuss this further, please do ring us.

I've heard that you could perhaps get lucky and jump the queue due to a cancellation?

I can remember years ago i read that they had a 1 year + waiting list for restoration, this must have been about 2001 or there abouts.

At least with them you know its going to come back spot on.

Better they let you know, rather than taking the car and leaving you, fobbing you off for a year saying its almost done!!

Will you be booking it in or taking it elsewhere?

I'm sure there's places out there that can do work to those high standards with that long a list!

Do Minis that have been to Somerfords wear "old garage bonnet stripes" and frequent private carparks in Knightsbridge?

There are. Paul wigginton would be the best bet, bodywork skill second to nobody.
