Been busy sorting out the rear brakes.
It took abit of head scratching, cheers David for the references, you have to reference the disc diameter and it's offset then you have to consider the offset of the caliper and it's optimum position on the disc. Also it has to fit in the wheel!
I have opted with a 240mm fiesta front disc to be placed on the back.
So as my car isn't standard on the rear, due to the upright, I had to come up with my own bracket.
With the rears figured out, the fronts are next!
BF5294CC-91D9-4887-B3AE-65AC17309BAF_zps

Although when fiddling around I have noticed that I have one odd wheel, one has a different offset than the rest! I wondering if they will give me a refund 4 years later!

Ckckckckckck....Years ago our "engineering director" /sniggermodeoff bought a Honda S2000 from a dealer, he drove around in it for ages before he realised that it had two different styles of alloys on each side of that car :-)

No wonder our equipment walked with a stutter and talked with a limp .

Cheers cal, once up and running I will definately be driving it to a few shows and events.
Parts have been turning up today:
Custom propshaft which will eliminates the rubber coupling that fails on the sierra over time.

Hats off to Bailey Morris who have done exactly what they said they were going to and in the specified time scale.
The front end bolts straight onto the gearbox.

Also the front brake discs have turned up - 278mm standard cosworth 4x4 discs will fit.

I have also p-clipped the internal brake lines and just have the bulkhead connectors to get and stainless brake lines ordered and fitted.

I've also got a new job which means that I can only work on the car at the weekend! Rather unfortunately it means I only have 3 days to work on it till the pod!

Well well well , I to am building a 2.9 4x4mini ! Most of the hard work is done though I think the only way was to construct a tubular space frame giving the wheel centres a match for the shell although the wheels are a lot wider so wheel arches are required . I intend to drop a mini shell over the frame so it won't need a floor but will seal and bolt it to the existing floor . I will upload some pics next week . The rad has to go into the boot area but I do have power steering . I contemplated cutting a mini shell in half down the middle and filleting the section in to avoid the wheel arches but then would need to source a front and rear screen to suit the extra width and would be amusing to see this parked next to a standard mini viewed head on ! I would like to keep the appearance from the outside as standard mini as possible and am thinking of clever ways to funnel air over the radiator without having air scoops on the outer rear wing . So basically it's build a space frame to house the engine gearbox and 4 wheel drive diff system then drop your shell over the top when you don't need to worry about the shell being part of the chassis !

Subsea, you may want to make your own project thread where people will go to specifically to look at your project rather than posting in a thread for someone else's project.

Will get more views and no doubt less confusion!

Cam.

Subsea, it will be cool to see more pictures. Start your own thread and I will be interested to see its progress from start to current status.
I've been at it today, I actually have door handles

With internal door releases.
739DE804-23D9-4726-BC9E-EEEFC3F886DD_zps

Propshaft is fitted:

Also the front end is nearly all wired up and it's been run up to temperature and all is fine.
I just have to order some brake lines and fittings and then she will move under her own steam. She won't stop, but she will move!!

Yes I will probably do that , sorry wasn't wanting to charge in just wanted to display the space frame . In the last two days a cosworth engine has come on the market stating 450bhp and skyline turbo upgrade etc etc .. I do however go to sea with my job and this is the first forum I have ever joined ! The car the cosworth is in is written off at the rear end so no feeling bad at breaking a cossy. My wheels don't seem as wide but instead of putting wide wheel arches I may consider cutting the sides out just beneath the windows and welding in some quarter pipe section . I have done some drawings and with that and small arches you tend to spread the eye loading if you see what I mean . Anyway I have read this thread twice and well don eomn the work . I will do all the work myself so it will take a while I'm afraid but typical of me it happens in bursts . I will keep checking on here for progress .

Subsea,
That sounds pretty good, a 2.9 turbo'd 4x4!
Defo get a build thread started. I want to see more. I do like 'different' builds.
As to cutting up a cosworth... There's plenty about and you will never please everyone. Many people strip them and many people rebuild them, it's an endless cycle. Just do what you want to do, that's the main thing.

Well I have to say people: it's official - It WONT be ready for Santa pod this weekend!
Parts haven't turned up!
I'll keep people posted to its first official outing though.
There's no-one more disappointed about it than I am.

Well I've been at it all day today with very little to show for the efforts.
However everything apart from the front calipers have turned up.
So copper brake lines have been made up and are flared with fittings. (Even if half the fittings are imperial and half are metric! Lol)
The lights have pretty much been sorted, thank you Mr B. He found out that all the problems associated with the indicators not working was down to a blown fuse!! Lol literally about an hour was spent looking at wiring diagrams to then find out the fuse had popped!
Also I spent nearly the whole day fabricating the diff mount. Also it was my first proper attempt at welding something structural. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, but I'm pleased with it.
All being well tomorrow, the beast should move and ready to be driven properly with the exception of front calipers.
Needless to say the first 'journey' will be filmed!

Well last weekend was a washout, it rained all Sunday so no driving.

However all parts will be with me tomorrow.

The calipers have been made and the front brakes are the last thing thats stopping me driving the beast.

So the list of jobs this weekend

- make rear brake lines

- make clutch line

- make front brake lines

- fit extended wheel studs on front

(- maybe change inner cv boots)

- fit front calipers

- fit and fill all lines and bleed

- fit throttle stop

THEN DRIVE

The diff in now nicely mounted thanks to my brilliant welding skills. Admittedly it mounted solid, but hey everything else is so theres no harm done.

Its booked in for a 4 wheel alignment at the end of the month, so if it drives this weekend, I will have to get it taxed and MOT'd quick sharpish.

Front discs fitted with spacers and extended wheel bolts

My old wheels are definately not going to clear the brakes!

And as certain brake manufactures can't keep their word I won't have the calipers for this weekend!
