Yeah I would be well chuffed with a similar torque figure, but I have to get it setup properly as I don't want a melted engine. I think the super short pipe run, tubular manifold might help with the lag (oh and the anti lag) but as for torque we will see when I get the printout.

As for trips up the strip, I should run a raffle and sell tickets! I'll think i wait till it's complete before I promise anything!

To be honest I'm not that fussed about being in a magazine, unless they're wiling to pay! Lol I see features cars all immaculate and this won't be anywhere near!
I would quite happily drive it with a rough grey primer paint job, as it is now, with white fibreglass panels if it meant it drove perfectly!

CptKirk: Are there any 'rules' as to how much it is out by and the effect it has on the vehicle??

The problem being is that there's so much to think about I think I would go crazy if everything had to be considered. While I do acknowledge it might be 'interesting' to drive as a result of the width to length ratio, im going on the basis that a 4wd mini with around 370bhp will more than make up for the effect that it will have on the handling.

Ok before I get started I want to point out I am no suspension expert, far from it, recently in my quest for knowledge I have been reading a lot about suspension design for my next project and as it was fresh in my mind I though I would whip up the drawing for you.

I answer to your question - honestly, I couldnt say I if there is a 'rule' of its effect on the vehicle, someone somewhere will probably know this but it is such a black art there are very few that will know off the top of their head.

IMO I think your biggest problem will be tyre scrub. As your inside tyre wont be turning enough, as to what this will feel like remains to be reported on, again I couldnt say for sure but will guess at understeer - better than oversteer in a road application. I think it will understeer alot on slow corners and feel not too bad on fast corners.

I hear what your saying about having that power in such a small car and the small wheelbase/wide track is going to make it feel 'interesting', and do you know what, you may not have any problems with it. I guess it depends on what you have in mind for the car, is it a tracker or a sprint car or like mine mainly a road car, I am guessing the latter, in which case if your not going to be squeezing every last bit of grip from it in the corners then it might just be ok. I guess just keep it in mind if in the future once you have it all together and something doesnt feel right in the corners then maybe look further into it.

I scoured the net for some Ackerman Prinicple write ups and explanations, I have put two links below the first is very interesting and will highlight what a black art suspension truly is and the other is a basic wiki of Ackerman:

Ackerman in Racing

Wiki Ackerman

I have a few books at home on suspension and as they all state suspension is all about compromise, there is no magic formula that fixes every problem so as most of your is from the Sapphire then this may have to be the compromise.

Forgetting all of the above I think your a brave man to take on such a project (even if you got soemeone else to do the donkey work (its exactly what I did)), hats off to you and I honestly am really looking forward to seeing the outcome. Keep up the good work and an interesting thread of the build.

EDIT - Just found another good site for Ackerman explanation:

Wouldn't be worth taking a passenger down the strip anyway, you're doing it to get the best times you can.

Another passenger = more weight

Ive not been doing much on this, although I have two week off now to get cracking with it.
The aim is to have the seats, petrol tank and front end mounted with intercooler and rad!! When all is sorted out I will take a few snaps and upload them as the intercooler is huge!!

Although ideas are still kicking around as to what to do with the rear beam set-up. If only businesses answered their bloody phones!

Santa Pod allow 2 people into cars on the strip if it is a safety requirement ie. to achieve even weight distribution or to operate controls out of reach of the driver, some cars will not go straight without a passenger, just try to blag a safety reason lol
