Hiya,

Im looking to buy a tarp to cover the mini. I dont want a car cover as they thend to be more expensive, and also a tarp is more versatile when i have finished the mini. What size tarp would i need? I found this...

Argos tarpaulin
But dont know if that will be big enough? I want it to drape over the sides of the car onto the floor so i can then put bricks or something on it to stop it blowing away...

Cheers :xxx:

This one has holes in the corners for you to feed string/rope through and you can then tie it under your car or around the wheel. Better than bricks..
I use tarpaulin for covering mine but got mine free ( My scaffolders when I got my dormer built left it behind ! )

A tarp is a bad idea for covering a car unless its a project in progress. Firstly, a poor-fitting plastic sheet will flap in the wind and abrade the paintwork, secondly a trap is non-breathable and will allow condensation to build up on the car, promoting rust.

Im not a fan of car covers either myself, unless its a very expensive one. Argos car covers are about as thick and effective as bin bags, so I dont know how good a tarp from them would be either. I used a cheap tarp from a diy shop to cover a compct tractor for a few weeks. Despite being very well tied and weighted down, the wind shredded it in a matter of days.

I had one of my projects under a tarp for months when we moved house. it was over the winter and the car was fine rust wise and the trap in one piece. It cost £6/7 pounds from our local DIY shop at the time.

Got mine from Wickes or B&Q i think, only a few quid, and it easily goes over the car 3x2.5m or similar!

I agree with your points about them being a bad idea, but this is indeed a project, going back to a bare shell, and no space in the garage (its literally full up with the bits i have taken of the mini!)

Anyway, i brought the one in the link to argos i posted, and it fits a treat, and with a bit of rope though the eyes, tied up, i dont think its gonna go anywhere either! Bargain for a tenner :shy:
