Hi , on a recent trip I noticed the left rear wheel brakes better than the right causing a little pull to the left .
The other day while adjusting my hi-los after I replaced the rear right wheel I could torque up the nuts without the wheel spinning in the air although the handbrake was on this still seems odd
So it looks like I need to adjust the rear drums
Who's done it and how's it done ?
How much do I back out the adjustment scree etc
How do I equalize both sides etc in relation to handbrake ?
My mini has a front to rear split brake system
Cheers !!

theres a squair nut on the back of the drum. its above the lever that connects to the handbrake cable. you turn this all the way in so the wheel will not move then a half turn back.

It's worth getting the proper spanner (1/4 inch square) to avoid rounding the adjuster peg. The adjuster has 4 flats on the inside too so goes in 90 degree steps. Apply the brakes af few times and spin the wheel to centre the shoes. also keep the thread in the backplate well greased, they're buggers for seizing.

jack the rear up, and release the Hbrake.

tighen the adjuster untill the wheel stops moving.

loosen it untill the wheel starts to spin with slight scrubbing of the braking surfaces.

apply the handbrake and check its tight enough, if not, adjust that aswell

Also its probably worth while removing the drum and checking the condition of the wheel cylinders, eve if there no sign of leaking, if you peel back the rubber end seal and see fluid its time to change the cylinder.

Its a good time to clean out any brake dust thats in there, but wear some sort of face mask.

Shoes and drums can also be checked. Its an 1/2 hr job if nothings seized.

While you've got it appart applying copperslip grease to the adjuster threads is a good idea

Then all of the above on the adjusting side
