Anone know a place to look at online ads which have such cars? (Ebay dont have any MK1 or MK2)

Also, is there a forum like TMF for that cars so i can get more help?

(searched but didnt find anything)

Thanks a lot..

We have seen a stunning orange MK2 on CARANDCLASSIC but it's sold now :P

Found this too..

http://www.carandcla....uk/car/C85430/

looks very good!

Also, MK1 & MK2 only had 1300 engines? Because we prefer a 1500 as my father used to have an MK2 with 1500, but it seems that there is nowhere an MK2 1500.

Have a look here for model spec & a buyer's guide. Personally, I'd have a GT6 instead. :P

Guy I work with has an immaculate mkIII, still original styling, think it's a 1300?

Very nice- always had a soft spot for Spitfires.

Spitfire MkI (also known as Spitfire 4 as 4 cyl engine): Quite rare, 1300 engine
Spitfire MkII: Also rare, 1300 engine
Spitfire MkIII: More of them, hood more practical, 1300 engine
Spitfire MkIV: Comparatively common, again 1300 engine
Spitfire MkV: Most common of the lot, with 1500 engine from MG Midget.

Most practical for everyday use are MkIV/V. Lovely cars- tiny, low, not particularly fast but feel it (like a Mini), fairly cheap to run and dead easy to fix (separate chassis, whole bonnet lifts up so you can sit on the wheel to fix the engine!)

I plan to buy one when I have a mid-life crisis.

Alternatively look for a Gitfire conversion - a Spit with a 2l GT6 engine. Nice.

Hate to argue, but as a committed MG Nut, the Midget was fitted with the Triumph engine, not the other way around!!

spitfires mk1 & 2 came with 1147cc engines. the mk3 & 4 had the 1296cc engine and the late mk4 had the 1500cc engine which was also fitted to the dolomite and mg midget. all could be ordered with an overdrive unit fitted to the back of the gearbox.
i've had a few spiities and they are great little cars to work on with most parts available.
like most classic cars rot is the main problem. the biggest problem with spitfire is the sills are a structural part of the car and on really bad cars the body sags and you can't shut the doors. if you need to replace the sills on them weld some brace bars in before removing the sills so that you can kept the correct door openings.
hope this helps.
good look in finding a good one as they are a nice practical classic to drive.

Thanks all of you for the replies,

Yes it is a great car to drive as my father keep telling me how much fun he had with it, and how easy it was to repair something in the hood (sitting on the wheel ). He always tell me NEVER sell a car you love (like the mini) because you will surely regret it

I have found a few MK3 and above that are in great condition and I may get one of them at the end because MK1 & MK2 seems to be VERY rare (and there is not a 1500 on them)

My mate is rebuilding his Spit Mk3 to fit the engine out of a Triumh 2500! Straight 6 2.5litre...... I seem to remember that the mk1 and 2 had only got a 3 bearing crank in their 1300, but the mk3 has a 5 bearing i think.
