Hi guys,
Looking to get a rebuild kit for my HS4 soon, but i have a waxstat jet and want to it back to solid. Is it just a case of buying the non-waxstat rebuild kit or is there more to it?
Cheers,
Matt.

You will need a different jet operating link that won't be included in the kit.

alright mate. i did this and didnt know that the little lik part wasnt included. i then asked for the new link part from minisport and was told i would have a hole new chokle linkage kit. didnt i recieved a tiny peice of metal (and another non waxstat peice) that i could have easily made up in about 5 mins. all you need to do is buy the refub kit then just figure out how the link peice fits cus otherwise you will be wasting 19 quid on another non axstat peice and a tiny peice of steel.
i was rather angry lol. cheers

all you really need is 2 one pence coins,
open up the bottom of the waxstat , remove the waxstat bit, replace it with 2 one pence coins, rebuils
here is a bit I did about it on another site
This is the site I found that explained it http://www.nireland....ph/waxstats.htm
But here's a few pictures
Complete unit

Cap removed, be carefull its spring loaded. Easy enough to do, 3 tabs prise back

remove metal button, this normally goes between the jet and the waxstat unit

replace waxstat unit with 2 one pence coins, keep the metal button in its original postion

After removing my jet assy, I did find that my waxstat unit looked damaged so this could have been causing the problems that led me to investigate
right unit is a good one, left is my original
Slight amendment, had confirmation from other people that they also have a waxstat with the dent in the bottom, so looks like some of them are made like that

Well that's what you get for buying them from Mini Sport!

Always go to Burlen for SU parts since they make them and sell direct. The Lever Link Assembly kit for an HS4 is about £6.00, £7.00 if you want to buy it as an assembled part. That's roughly the same as the amount you will save by buying a non-Waxstat rebuild kit over a Waxstat one so you can either do it that way or buy a Waxstat kit and convert it as above.
If you make it yourself and don't get the link length exactly right the fuelling will be all over the shop.

I have converted two Waxstat jets using the method mentioned above. It's very easy. The hardest parts are 1) prying the cap off the bottom, and 2) compressing the spring when you put the coins in place of the Waxstat.
What I found works well is to take a piece of heavy cord (but safety wire would work also) and use it to hold the spring compressed by tying the jet tube to the housing.
Keith Calver also sells the adapter pieces to allow the use of a standard Jet in a Waxstat carb if you want an alternative to Burlen.

Thanks for your replies guys, most helpful as always!
I don't know why but i'd rather use a non-waxstat jet and buy the extra linkage bit - which apparently is only £7 or so from Burlen - a site/company which i have never come across before... goes to have a peruse...

I bought a Waxstat Conversion Kit for about £12.00 from Calverst.com ( recommended by Willfield Motors ( Rolling Road Garage )). They are an SU Carb Specialist
Its not on their website now but they can still get it apparantly, and it comes COMPLETE as a unit that I needed no extra bits.
Thought i'd let you know.
