Sorry but that did make me laugh. There are at least 12 Leyland British Racing Greens, several of which were used on the Mini. It doesn't just come down to the paint type. There are several Diamond Whites too from many different companies as it's a popular name. I believe that the Leyland Flame Red name covers more shades than any other paint, including black. When you buy paint, buy it by the code not the name.

Ahh, i asked the guy at the counter, and gave him the paint code, he then went and found the exact can i needed, and mixed some paint up for me (i had a few touch up area's i needed to do, which i cant do with the gun) The 2 paints were completly different shades, that said the one for the gun is a very close match, but still not perfect.

ive seen the system they use for the paints and it is a table of how much of each colour and tone of the paint to put in to get your colour. dont be miss led by the advert that is on dave all the time. where the guy walks in and said "i need some red paint for my car"
shop guy replys "oh that will be flame red then" it doesnt work like that

I think you will find they took that off, because it IS faulse advertisement, and they can be sued for it.
(i tried it, then had a go at the guy in my local, bunch of dinlo's anyway! the guys in the bike hut know more about cars that the rest.)

Now now now how can you say that when they sell big stereos, fluffy dice and big wide wheels and all of their stuff is only twice the price of anywhere else.
What a top shop it is :)
Oh and if you work at Halfrauds you get a nice black and orange outfit to show all your mates at MD.

Sorry I will get my coat.

I still use Halfords for an emergency and for primer,Etch primer, satin black etc etc but will only go to a Proper Paint Factors for Colour Coat :P
Though i appreciate that paint weathers and Boris is nearly 14 years old the paint under his carpet and in the boot has never seen the light of day and hasnt faded, nevertheless the apparently exact paint for Boris correct Code didnt even match that!

So in that case you cannot blame weathering as paint inside the boot and under the carpets doesnt weather :D
Im not blaming Halfords staff though they only sell it not mix it

though they did sell me speakers that where an exact fit for the original holes in the rear parcel shelf ;)
But they were Too Bigg for the Holes :)

At least "Stevie Wonder" is happlily mixing Paint These days instead of singing an aweful din! :P

HVLP
its not just for fence spraying though thats what you tend to see them used for on the pakaging.
You can get some really cheap ones for around £30ish but id recomend you spend a bit more the one im going for is by Earlex and available at Argos and a few other places for around £73-75 there is an even more proffesional one they do for around £200 though ill be quite happy with this one :(

http://www.argos.co....s...001&go.y=11

there was somebody else on here used one and the finsh was Fabb i think it was TheDoobz if anybody else knows?

I wouldnt want to do a big car with one of these but for a Mini they are ideal
Im not saying proper compressors are no good they are but as i dont have the space to store one these HVLP turbine spray stations are brilliant for my needs

When i do that paintjob on Boris ill post up a thread for everybody to see the results :closed:

I use a £12 fence sprayer from screwfix, it is shockingly bad, but it gets the job done.

Are you all saying that Halfrauds will mix up aerosol cans of paint if you give them your paint code? If so, I didn't know that...

Well, mine is pre 1997 so it's BRG metallic. After that they changed to BRG pearlescent.

Of course there are different BRG's in the manufacturing history, and obviously buying from a paint suppliers using a paint code is the best way .. but I was talking about the match of Halfords cans, not that of paint bought from a paint suppliers to my paint code....

What Halfords have on the shelf as BRG will be one specific BRG and it says in the shop somewhere what paint code that relates to. If that's not the right one for your car then it doesn't matter that it's called BRG. Just because it's off the shelf paint doesn't mean it doesn't have a paint code.

OK, genuinely didn't know that. I just thought they stocked a generic colour. I'll need to look into that for interests sake, although I like the sound of the electric sprayer for future use - although I'm wondering what kinds of paint you can use with it.

Cheers

Did you see my post from april 14th,any paint experts out there?
Mine was on a honda but the same method applies the colour match is miles out, i should have spent a little extra and had it mixed at a proper paint factors.
Won't make that mistake again!
