I ordered a SP228 monza style gas cap from Minispares. I installed it and it made a very tight fit, both the neck that I had to hammer to push it all the way as well as the screwing cap.

I filled the tank as usual and gas is pouring from the cap.

I'm thinking about using silicone to seal all the unions, both inside and outside of the cap and neck.

Would regular silicone be disolved by gasoline?

Thanks.

Tried this also with my Aston cap, silicone is easily dissolved by petrol (gas). Tried most sealants, including instant gasket , the best way is to remove the tank and braze the brass collar on to the filler neck. I haven't done this yet, anyone out there done theirs?

Not so much the 'best way' as 'the way it's intended to be fitted'.

with the Aston cap you just take petrol cap off put Aston cap on tighten grub screws job done. with the monza cap i heard you cant use it with a standard locking petrol cap. unless i have looked at this wrong or missing something

There are several different types of these caps. The original type are threaded and screw onto a large brass thread that you have to add to the filler neck.
