Oh and, we replaced the bottom pulley as we had a faulty one where the material was too soft and it got eaten away by the belt.

Which bottom pully was it?

The standard VMAX one.

Short term solution is that it's a service part, every 10k miles.

Long term, AC Dodd is looking into making one for me that'll be much much stronger.

just put my vmax scart partial kit on.inlet manifold my own with su carb out the bonnet.lol.reason pulley wears is the belt doesnt run a square line,if you hold a straight edge on the crank pulley up to charger pulley the charger pulley is over to the left by aprox 15mm.be better if the v belt part wasnt on there it was made as just a multi rib pulley.change water pump pulley and altenator pulley to multi rib then just one belt needed.think mini speeds is done like this but not sure.

The new MED ones are lightweight steel ones, to prevent this problem (or reduce it?)

Just to add to this how many of you have fitted the kits yourself?
What kit did you fit?
How reliable has it been?
Having done it would you recommend it to people to

interesting reading about the supercharger, I would of liked one soon but the mileage i plan for the little mini might not work out to well.
I think of all these cars on this whole site, Yours is my favourite(so far!)

The bottom pulley On Jossens wore out at the oil seal giving a nice leak over that clean engine bay, Vmax kindly replaced it FOC but as Jossen says its a service part! The MED one sounds interesting though!

We had a play with Jossens again last month and fitted 1.5 rockers and a 15% charger pulley we got 15psi boost and a detonating engine! so a rethink needed on CR I think! The engine survived as we didnt continue going full bore on the rolling road.

The charger has done 15k now and is vibrating/rattling so I think it doesnt like handling fuel though its internals! inspection has shown the coating is coming off the rotors, I will post pics when I take it off again so it can go back to Vmax for a look see.

I have heard this as well the teflon coating gets eaten of the rotors or something¨due to the fuel washing or even eating its way.
I have been told to put something "Lei" spelling may be wrong, they use this stuff here in tractors and so on to keep it alive longer and it can double the life.

Is this running the Eaton M45 ? If so, rather than the detonation being caused by to a high a compression ratio, it's more than likely being caused by the very high charge temps. The M45 will be very very inefficient at that kind of boost. You'll be basically blowing a load of hot air at the engine.

Yes it was very much a trial to see what it would do, we went for the 15% pulley as it was the best comprimise in upping the boost a little!

BM quote around 10psi std boost on the old cooper s would another 5psi up the inlet temps that much? although the BM does run the intercooler as standard so that probably helps when the pulley is changed.

The engine has proven to be reliable running 108bhp over the 15k mileage and I would say it would be best to leave it that way for continued relaible use, but Im afraid Steve and I got a bit carried away when we decided to experiment with more boost, as ever the voice of reason AC was shaking his head at us all the way through! (and he was right dammit!)

The experiment has got me thinking as I rather fancy blowing the minus using a sidedraught with it, Ill need a new bonnet bulge design though!

I gotta add to the comments too!!

That car is absolutely stunning! First time a photo of a Mini Estate has even come close to taking my breath away. Nice work! You should be immensely proud. I know I would be.
