I aim to have it all stripped to the bare shell and have it blasted all over and underneath. Mainly to point out any weak spots and repair them before I start cutting large cunks out of the rear.
Once the wife's car finished and SVA'd, then the fun begins.

I'm doing it the other way round with the R1. Some would say the wrong way round, but I am gonna do all my cutting of the rear. Put the car together totally to see how it sits, what arch work needs doing and do the final trimming of the floor section. Then poor smurfy gets stripped out again, but after being thrashed around for a summer. Then back to bare metal. De-seamed and blended mini-because kit.I aim to have it all stripped to the bare shell and have it blasted all over and underneath. Mainly to point out any weak spots and repair them before I start cutting large cunks out of the rear.
But smurf won't have to cope with about 4million bhp!

So they say 10" are the best for handling on a Mini.
Reason Due to the lack of suspension movment the tyre hieght makes up for some of the suspension, like a F1 Car. So tyre hieght is Important !
Needs for 350BHP Wide rear Tyres are a must, as otherwise the traction control will be working overtime. But going to wide would not be good for road use.
Comprimise Wide tyres "Cut Slicks" for those dry days at the track and a set of sensible tryes for the normal british weather.
Race wheels Avon ACB-10 Sports 215/50/13 Fronts and 245/45/13 Rears on 7" and 8" rims. Tyre Hieghts 21.9" Dia Front 22.1" Rear.
Road wheels Goodyear Ventura 185/60/13 on 7" rims, with a wheel spacer at the back to fill the arch. Tyre Hieghts 21.7"
Have looked into 14" rims etc but cannot get tall enough tyres at the widths I want.
So that's it then
Any thoughts ?

you'd get a hell of a lot more grip if slicks are allowed.

my plan was to get 2 sets of rims the same size, one with decent road rubber and the other with rubber that is close to slick and still road legal (with grooves for damp tarmac etc)..

I was at the Autocar 0-100-0 test day at Bruntingthorpe last year with my Ultima
and my mates Can-Am. The Caterham R500 won and guess what tyres he had on....... Avon ACB-10 Sports..... Road Legal.
Also can drive to the track days with them on, and the plod can't stop me.....

A guy i knew that raced a mini with coil-overs used 13s as there was a much better choise of tyres , compounds and rims( he used to do hill climbs and sprints)
he said this gave him a poorer choise of diff ratio , will this be a issue to you or will you be able to change your final drive ratio by changing the sprockets ?
