Hey there just a quick question how would you know if you have a faulty purge valve? or is it a case of just buying new one.

I have turned the engine on and put my cheek over the valve area and im getting a slight breeze of air coming from that area

What you think

Why do you suspect it to be faulty.

The valve should be closed and pass nothing, with 12v posative and negative applied, it should open and allow air to pass. if it doesnt, its broke

It would help of you'd either continued this in the orginal thread or added a link to it:

Linky

How have you tested it? Have you checked that it is actually closing quickly when the volts are removed? It's not a sensor it's just a valve so checking it electrically alone isn't relevant, you need to ensure that its mechanical function is being performed.

Again, moved to injection.

See if you can blow through it immediately after it's been turned off. It should completely shut off the air flow immediately the power is removed, if this is what's causing your problem it would be because it's weeping air for some minutes as it's become sticky and sluggish is its old age.

It belongs here really because only injection cars have an electric purge valve, these are the only cars it would be relevant to.

Just found this little bit of info from the Rover manual which states the valve is controlled by the ECM and should not open until engine reaches 70 DegC > > >
